I purchased the audible version first, but could not make any headway (got terribly lost) because of he narrator's British accent and tone of voice, coupled with the strange names and places. I gave up listening to it. But it haunted me, and so I bought the e-book and finally could make progress! Awesome! Only time constraints limited my early completion but for epic fantasy lovers, this is your book. I highly recommend it. If you can make it through the audible version, my kudos. I tried to re-listen to it, but could never get far. Please change the narrator for the next one, please? Otherwise, can't hardly wait!!

I awaited this book for a while, after all, Grisham! and was disappointed. The nearly detail treatment of the pivotal character's experience in the War was not so relevant to the whole story because the audience already had a perception of this current state of mind. Plus, it appears midstory?!, and took too many chapters. I actually skipped through it, desperately wanting to see how the book ended. And it left me hanging! How cruel! It seems that the kids' lawyers were not very pro-active and neither were the kids, one of whom was in law school. Sign of the times? I kept 'mind-shouting' why not do this, how about further investigations! Let's put the Mom under hypnosis? Do something!! The book left me extremely frustrated, and uncomfortable as a human(e) being.
The portrayal of cotton farming in the South in the era was spot-on, as usual.

This one bothered me - not a straight-forward, typical Bosch, but with several plots running together and darker than usual. Is Connelly reflecting current social trends? Prefer a Bosch who gets 'cleaned-up', instead of a self-reflecting, self-psychoanalyzing one. Mr. Connelly, don't beat him up anymore, and he's aging, and needs the support and admiration of the whole police force!!

Thought I was hearing extraneous noise, but it turned out to be sound effects, tacky ones at that. The echo chamber and faded voices were too artificial to enjoy. 'A' for effort and presenting an ingenously different audible but not for me. But I do love dragons!

I was intrigued by the title and the summary - but the monotonous narrator's voice soon became annoying and incomprehensible. I stretched it to 4 chapters, then threw in the towel. Just not my kind of listening pleasure and excitement. Too bad.

From the opening words to the final the end, I was mesmerized to the very edge of my being - was clearly not a functioning wife and grannie for the duration. My mind was stoked on the characters, the plot, the non-ending ferocious tempo. Needless to say, I was exhausted by the end. Few books have had this effect. Thank you, M. Wisehart and TGR!!!

I started this series because of the author and narrator, both of whom I just love and would marry (both) if... But I have trudged through the first and now the second - drifting from the story line again and again because it kept veering off course and couldn't hold my attention. But I will continue with the next and the thereafter because I am a devoted fan. Would like a 'tighter' 3rd with more swashbuckling excitement!!

I really wanted to enjoy this but couldn't, kept glancing at the remaining time, the remaining chapters. It seemed to go on and on and was distracted by the abrupt change in time. And the plot seemed to be overly-complicated with new reveals at every turn.

I kept getting lost and confused with the narration - not to mention dozing off frequently. But am an A.Ryan fan and refuse to be disappointed!! Will not resume (not half way yet) until I can listen/read to absorb it all! How long do I have to wait, Audible???
