DECIDED!

Overall
4 out of 5 stars

Reviewed: 02-29-08

For years I've been undecided whether or not I really liked or enjoyed D. Koontz's books. The eartly ones were just great fun. This one finally did it. I'm so sorry I wasted $ on this. I'm tired to death of his formulated tales, and, hopefully, will never feel comepelled to try another one. This one has been deleted one-quarter read from my library.

Writer and Reader and brilliant.
Short, simple and to the point. Want some great moments listening to the writing of one artist, spoken by another?
Can't beat this.

The reader of E. Buchanan's book is so removed fromt the material, good luck trying to follow it. I didn't mean to switch reads on books, but when it happened, I was so relieved, not going back to try to finish it.

The Voice

The Reader's tones are all you can hear of this book. Buy hard copy. This audiobook is almost impossible to listen to, as the reader sounds like she is so absorbed in her own tones and not focused on the material, one could go to sleep -- AND this is a good book. the Listener has to re-hear author's voice. Shame on your indulgence, Reader. Shame. Get over it.

Insight & Intrigue

Through the eyes of the protagonist, an adolescent borne with cross of Asberger's Syndrome, I see a huge world fraught with dangers, loud noises, uncomprehension and great desire to set things "right." Oh, Gee...could it be a wonderful part of me? Oh, yes, I think. Via his sales of hardcopy and audio, I'm so glad I'm not alone. I only wish Christopher could know this too. What a fine sleuth he is. Excellent reader.

As in each of the A.McCall books, this one, again, takes me to a place of peace/without boredom; learning and discovery/without condescension; and, excitement/without adrenaline. The Reader, Lizette, is not "good." She is brilliant. I would love to see her perform, for she must be a splendid actress onstage/film, as well as on recorded books. Give yourself a wonderful treat with all these Botswana books...careful though, might make you want to move there - soon.

Better than Gold

Every book of Burke's is better than the one before; or, so it seems. Perhaps, after all are read, this reader will read them backward - to see if each is not a prize unto itself. James Lee Burke, thank you for getting sober. Thank you for continuing to instruct as well as add brilliance to the imagination's bank account. And, Will, the reader, is so very fine. Thank you.

Who cares? None of the good guys are interesting. None of the bad guys are interesting. Never thought I'd applaud a reader for being melodramatic, but Scott B.'s read is the only thing that kept me listening to this endless tale. The ending reminds one of the kiss at the end of a sexless romance novel, but rather than embrace, the two just walk away. Won't be trying to find out if they ever meet again.

Catching Breath

The reader on this selection must needs go back to vocal production classes. One note - out of breath by ends of sentences. Such a brilliant book. Such an inexperienced reader - or a really scared director - or someone posing as a sound engineer. Don't buy. Awful narration. Read the book.
