You will never read Denny Younger's name in any history book, will never know what he's done. But even if you did, you'd never believe it. The world as you know it wouldn't be the same without him. Denny was born into one of the lowest rungs of society, but his bleak fortunes abruptly change when the mysterious Upjohn Institute recruits him to be a Rewinder, a verifier of personal histories. The job at first sounds like it involves researching old books and records, but Denny soon learns it's far from it.

Honestly...this book is solid but not great. It is Vikas’ narration that makes it come to life. It’s why I choose Audible instead of any normal platform for “reading” books. There about two dozen books (of the nearly 400 I have in my library) where a seemingly marginal book in text has become truly brilliant with the right narrator. Indeed, even the great books I love have reached new heights and new meaning in my life because a narrator gave a completely new depth to the book. I don’t discourage people from text with Kindles etc but I strongly encourage to listen to the book again with a narrator —it is often the difference between good and great with a lot of books.

Sir John Penlyon is planning to spend Christmas at his estate with his niece and his friend Danby, the closest thing he has to family since disowning his daughter years ago. (She eloped with the parson, who was, of course, penniless.) Danby suggests that at Christmastime the estate needs the presence of small children, and offers to find some - the “hirelings” - despite Sir John’s skepticism. Three children duly arrive, and the youngest, precocious four year-old Moppet, quickly endears herself to Sir John.

That stammer. Those basset-hound eyes. That bone-dry wit. There has never been another comedian like Bob Newhart. In this, his first audiobook ever, Newhart gives his brilliant and bemused twist on a multitude of topics, including flying, the trials of a family holiday in a Winnebago, and more serious subjects, such as golf. And, of course, there are side-splittingly funny stories from his life and career. Who else has a drinking game named after him? ("Hi, Bob!")

Dalzelle has kept this series moving forward with a multitude of possibilities as to where to take it next.

Heitsch is a brilliant narrator who absolutely makes you forget that this is NOT a multi-cast production. His connection to these characters and the voices make it impossible for Audible and Dalzelle to choose anyone else. And it goes beyond the voices-he adds depth to characters that make you want to know more of their backstory.

The combination of writer and narrator is often a very delicate thing. The book could be great and the narrator falls a little short and vice-versa. But when it works, it’s a novel you want to be a part of as someone who appreciates good science fiction.

Thankfully, the Dalzelle-Heitsch combination is one of the best in the business and it never fails to make a great story even better. And when it’s over, you know you have had a unique and exceptional experience as a listener.

As a kid, Bob Newhart was the 1st comedian I truly ever understood as actually being a comedian. He didn’t tell jokes per say but found the funny in situations that eluded most people. His ability to deliver a line, keep an audience in comedic suspense with his pauses and find his character in movie or tv show is incredible to watch. He will always be, like his best friend Don Rickles, the platinum standards of comedy. If there is any criticism of the book, I really wish he had the time to include brilliant comedic minds like Chris Rock, Eddie Murphy as well as folks he worked with on either the TV shows or his later work.

Trump’s freakout about this book before it hit bookshelves was over the top. The book doesn’t contain anything we don’t already know or suspect. But it does prove one thing: he is deeply worried & is certainly aware that he broke the law. Unlike his bankruptcy filings where he could walk away, this time Donald Trump may have to actually face the music. All because he is simply “a fucking liar.”

I loved this next in the series book....it’s brilliant. But trust me, wait for the very end....it’s not what I expected until it happened. Only then did it all make sense....and it’s why Scott Meyer is one of five authors whose books I will ALWAYS buy. And Luke Daniels I couldn’t praise anymore than I have before - but honestly he makes waiting for these books to come out worth every second and every penny spent on them. His knowledge of characters, his connection to the voices & his ability to connect you almost directly to each one makes the entire story come alive. In short, well done and when’s the next one coming out!!
