Classic Maeve Binchy. Several short stories that weave together. Heartwarming. You feel like you are there.

A good book for those who want a detailed history of surgery and how knowledge of germs and fighting them came about. As for me—it was too detailed.
Interesting tidbit: Dr. Lister (as in Listerine) played a huge part in this book. The narrator is Ralph Lister. A relation perhaps?

If you’re interested in the Dust Bowl in detail, this is your book. I do like how the author wrote about actual people. To be perfectly honest, I would have enjoyed the book much more if it weren’t in such detail.

Informative. Pretty interesting most of the time. The narrator had a rather monotonous voice—not too bad, but definitely could have been better.

Great true life story that isn’t well known. Glad I learned about it and about the ladies. A bit too many ladies were covered though. It bogged the book down. I know the author wanted every lady’s story to be told, and I commend her for that. And yet, it made the readability of the book not as good.

This book, in written form, would be great for someone who wants a LOT of details. I say in written form because this performance was lacking in my opinion. Her voice rarely changed pitch. Between that and all the detail (mostly the performance) I found it hard to finish the book. The only reason I did was because I really wanted to know the subject matter.

So much better than the movie. The movie made a lot of changes. Narration was excellent.

Excellent book. I cannot recommend it too highly if you want to learn about what the food industry does--in detail--not only now but get some history too. The author gives this information so it all makes sense. He does not use technical jargon. I learned more than I thought possible. Really need to listen to this book again as there is so much information.
