I was looking for something for more of a nature focused solitary practice, since I dislike organized religion. This surpassed my expectations. Spiritual and practical, it will have appeal for a wide variety of practicioners. I've already started to listen again at the beginning.

One night, Peter Lake - orphan, master-mechanic, and master second-story man - attempts to rob a fortress-like mansion on the Upper West Side. Though he thinks the house is empty, the daughter of the house is home. Thus begins the affair between the middle-aged Irish burglar and Beverly Penn, a young girl who is dying. Because of a love that at first he cannot fully understand, Peter, a simple and uneducated man, will be driven "to stop time and bring back the dead".

An acquaintance recommended it since I love literature that explores the theme of "time". I tried extra hard to complete it so it wasn't awkward each time I saw them and they asked what I thought of it. Couldn't finish it- and I finish pretty much everything. Mistakes beginning writers make with viewpoint, sentimental, Hollywood recipe writing.

That being said, it will be many people's 'cup of tea'. If you liked "The Notebook" by Sparks, you may like this. No jarring issues with the reader's performance- at least the part I heard.

"Forty rooms" is a conceit: It proposes that a modern woman will inhabit 40 rooms in her lifetime. They form her biography, from childhood to death. For our protagonist, the much-loved child of a late marriage, the first rooms she is aware of as she nears the age of five are those that make up her family's Moscow apartment. We follow this child as she reaches adolescence, leaves home to study in America, and slowly discovers sexual happiness and love.

While I found the beginning slow and didn't connect at first it pays to have patience with this book. It's glorious. The performance is excellent. There is an abundance of exquisite phrases and expressions that put it in rare company. As an artist, the themes felt sharply familiar. What is a life well lived? Am I dedicated enough to my practice? Is it really about the little things?
Somehow having some of my feelings and uneasy thoughts put into words is comforting and perhaps helps me make sense of them. Recommended to all lovers of literature and for those craving a taste of immortality.

In a league of its own. The text is rythmic and the performance beyond brilliant. Won't tire of this and will listen to it repeatedly. Fun gross out humor your 9 year old would love. It's a luxury to be read to and great children's writers will sometimes have an almost lyrical quality to their text that adult fiction doesn't. This is such a gem. Better than the movie. Worth experiencing.

Though we talk about wanting to age gracefully, the truth is that when it comes to getting older, we’re programmed to dread an inevitable decline: in our health, our looks, our sexual relationships, even the pleasure we take in living life. But as Christiane Northrup, MD, shows us in this profoundly empowering program, we have it in us to make growing older an entirely different experience for both our bodies and our souls.

Brilliant performance. Danielle's soulful reading is electric and I'm all charged up! The audio also comes with a downloadable study guide with coaching questions so effective, you'll be well equipped to uplevel your life. For anyone who would love a top notch coach or a life makeover program that calls you out on your issues, offers loving support, and helps you figure out your path, this will deliver and at a fraction of the cost and time from those who are much less qualified (as in getting results for their people) to do so.
