Tara Westover was 17 the first time she set foot in a classroom. Born to survivalists in the mountains of Idaho, she prepared for the end of the world by stockpiling home-canned peaches. In the summer she stewed herbs for her mother, a midwife and healer, and in the winter she salvaged in her father's junkyard. Her father forbade hospitals, so Tara never saw a doctor or nurse. Gashes and concussions, even burns from explosions, were all treated at home with herbalism. Then, lacking any formal education, Tara began to educate herself. Her quest for knowledge transformed her, taking her over oceans and across continents, to Harvard and to Cambridge.

Sorry their are not more than five stars to give. This is surely one of the greatest books I have ever read. What a credit to the human race is this great young woman. A must read for anyone from a difficult family.

Kept waiting for something interesting to happen. Never did. Just kind of silly. Not realistic.

Would you try another book from Sandra Brown and/or Jan Maxwell?

Jan yes, Sandra no

What do you think your next listen will be?

Not sure

What about Jan Maxwell’s performance did you like?

yes

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Disappointment. Totally irrational character behavior. In her recent books she starts out fine and about halfway through everyone starts behaving insanely--as if she had to finish the book in one day! No more. Too bad, I have read all up to now.

Any additional comments?

Seems like she is just throwing junk out there to make a few bucks on her early reputation.

Any additional comments?

Sandra Brown is over the hill, needed a quick buck or did not write this book. I have read everything she ever wrote. This is awful and must be embarrassing to her.

Stone Barrington is back in New York, and after a rather harrowing sojourn in Key West, he's looking to stay closer to home and work on some simple divorce and custody cases for Woodman & Weld. But when he crosses paths with a fetching Broadway actress-and sometime lip model- Stone gets a little more deeply involved with business than he'd expected. When his new lady love turns out to be a lady with a shady past, Stone and downtown cop Dino Bacchetti realize that her beauty may have an unusually high price.

Woods has trashed the elegant Stone and made him into a sexual freak, along with every woman he meets. If he wants to learn how to write about sex he should read Sandra Brown. Shame on you Stuart Woods.
