When Mulan decides to take her father’s place in battle against the besieging Teutonic Knights, she realizes she's been preparing for this moment her whole life - and that her life, and her mother’s, depends on her success. As the adopted daughter of poor parents, she has little power in the world. If she can’t prove herself on the battlefield, she could face death - or, perhaps worse, marriage to the village butcher. In her disguise as a young man, Mulan meets Wolfgang, the German duke’s son who is determined to save his people even if it means fighting his own brother.

I always enjoy books by Melanie Dickerson. The only bad thing about them is that when I get a new one for vacation or travel, I can't stop listening to it and finish it before my trip!

Struggling alone on the family farm, Abigail Tidwell knows exactly who to blame for her hardships: the Americans. If it weren't for their part in the war, her father and brothers would be home rather than fighting abroad. But no amount of antipathy could have prepared her for the shocking sight of a wounded American soldier on her property, a man in dire need of her help. Grudgingly, Abigail tends to the soldier's injuries and anticipates the satisfaction of turning him over to the authorities once he is healed. But fate has other plans.

Story line was interesting and I loved the book but the narration was annoying until the end when she started speaking in a normal pace. For most of the book it was way too slow and lazy for every character. Weird how she picked it up at the end.

Loved it! The narrator was by far one of the best. She really made the story so much better. I always listen to samples before I purchase. I've barely been able to finish a book when the narrator makes all men sound old and crotchety. This narrator had great accents for French, Irish and English. So good!
