On Combat looks at what happens to the human body under the stresses of deadly battle and the impact on the nervous system, heart, breathing, visual and auditory perception, memory - then discusses new research findings as to what measure warriors can take to prevent such debilitations so they can stay in the fight, survive, and win. A brief, but insightful look at history shows the evolution of combat, the development of the physical and psychological leverage that enables humans to kill other humans, followed by an objective examination of domestic violence in America.

A collection of anecdotal stories blended with established (published) research on the effects of combat (or extremely high stress) on the human mind and body. I don't think anyone else has done more research or provided the often simple tips to help those of us that have seen the other side of life. I am always hesitant to purchase books where the author is the reader (I prefer professional readers) though LTC Grossman did an admiral job of maintaining my attention and adding the right amount of emotion and inflections where necessary. I strongly recommend the breathing tips in this book for anyone who has ever felt the slightest stress - it will have a profound effect on your mind and body.

Hot on the trail of a North Korean looking to sell sensitive US intelligence to the Syrian regime, Pike Logan and the Taskforce stumble upon something much graver: the sale of a lethal substance called Red Mercury. Unbeknownst to the Taskforce, the Syrians plan to use the weapon of mass destruction against American and Kurdish forces and blame the attack on terrorists, causing Western nations to reassess their participation in the murky cauldron of the Syrian civil war. Meanwhile, North Korea has its own devastating agenda: a double cross that will dwarf the attack in Syria.

Non stop action and suspense from beginning to end! This time a combination of bad guys from Syria and north Korea keep Pike Logan and his task force running in circles. The introduction of the refugee girl made some very interesting plot twists and heart wrenching drama for Pike. Enjoying the fact we're now down to only one performer instead of two, which I disliked.

Defeat means the end of everything, the end of existence as nothing more than mindless host-bodies, the end of humanity and its alien allies alike. The stakes could not be higher. As a deeply divided humanity struggles to prepare a defense, with enemies inside and outside the human sphere just lurking to strike, Invincible is sent deep into alien space on what should have been a simple reconnaissance mission.

Thoroughly enjoyed this entire series. Between the action scenes are interesting tips on survival - that for this book, included a native tree used for tea (and has caffeine). Each of the books provided tips that I found fascinating - my favorites included how to process and cook kudzu and what part of an alligator to cook. The characters though, are what really make the story interesting although in this book, I thought the introduction of new characters from a cattle ranch seemed odd. As a retired military guy, I thought the interactions between "Sarge" and his men were very realistic. Insulting each other mercilessly was part of how we communicated with each other on a daily basis. Overall, if this is the last book in the series, I feel like it was a good way to end it but still hope for more.
