The foundation is laid brick by brick, it's the beginning of a serial. My 1st time ever listening to this author and she has sparked my curiosity with each character. The concerns of each character are deep and sometimes diabolical. Secrets, lies, love, betrayal, sprinkled joyful events under covered with "what satan made bad, God turned it out for good. Christian undertones throughout the story.

I was reluctant to listen to the book because the narrator. He did a horrible job on the book "Stepping Down" years ago, however he gets a passing grade on this one.

Wow!!! I was really surprised. This is another great book by this author. The narrator omg blew me away. I could not stop listening to this book. I'm thinking this book could pass as serial because first, these characters became so personable to me, that I want to hear more about them. And still wanna follow the families & their relationships with each other and outside of the nucleus. Oh boy, these spicy ladies felt their life's bottoms and amazingly climbed forward to achieve forgiveness, face reality & accept the consequences.

I really liked the narrator, he made the story manageable. The story tended to be long in the tooth, I think it was within the last 5 hours things started to POP. I liked the cases the character Paul was involved in, those cases seemed situational, he seemed to deal with them methodically and solve them quickly, of course with Ann's input. One the other hand, Ann's cases which were numerous morbid, secretive, and ongoing until the end. There is the plus side those two personalities completely matched, they were both equally yoked. She was the ying to his yang. Paul uncovered some secrets that blew my ever loving mind...

This is the 1st book I've read by this author. It's a good read, very informative about her tenure at the WH, how government is supposed to work & the policies that come out of the WH. She writes of historical events & how those events effect today's society. She writes how journalism is being diminished through the presidential years of 45 and her endurance of his criticism as a Black Female Reporter in the WH, along with the daily death threats. It's really an awesome read.

Though the narrator did a good job, I still think the author's voice would have been more impactful.

So far Zuri Day has not disappointed me with her storytelling. Zuri's words spoken by Patricia Floyd makes this story worth listening to over and over again. So this story is about love in the restuarant business, and much more. The main character tells about being an only child bought up in a broken marriage, nurtured by a loving grandmother, bc the parents were just too busy with the success of their own businesses. The author's detail of the child's childhood and how it effected the child as an adult really satisfied my nosy nature. Each character had a background, which makes the reader gets to know each character up close personal. The story was so believable, it was so easy for me to identify with each person.
