While there were some good ideas and some good advice in this book, the points that were made and many of the examples seemed contrived.

On the world called Hyperion, beyond the law of the Hegemony of Man, there waits the creature called the Shrike. There are those who worship it. There are those who fear it. And there are those who have vowed to destroy it. In the Valley of the Time Tombs, where huge, brooding structures move backward through time, the Shrike waits for them all.

Would you try another book from Dan Simmons and/or the narrators?

Not by Dan Simmons

Has Hyperion turned you off from other books in this genre?

No

Different voices

Any additional comments?

This book spends hours and hours setting up the books central event and then abandons readers just as the event is about to take place. There is little point in reading this if not committed to reading the entire series.

Would you ever listen to anything by Leigh Bardugo again?

I doubt it.

What three words best describe the narrators’s performance?

Varied from excellent to melodramatic.

Any additional comments?

The story takes a long time to get going and is constantly interrupted by gratuitous flashbacks that do little to move the plot forward. It ends without resolution to the main plot when another hour (tops) would have been tolerable to spend with the story if only to learn how it actually does end. Cut the needless opening chapters off, add a real ending to the book then pare down the flashbacks and this could have been a good listen.
