Nora Pennington, the owner of Miracle Books, believes that a well-chosen novel can bring healing and hope. But she and the rest of the members of the Secret, Book, and Scone Society know that, sometimes, practical help is needed, too. Such is the case with the reed-thin girl hiding in the fiction section of Nora's store, wearing a hospital ID and a patchwork of faded bruises. She calls herself Abilene, and, although Nora and her friends offer work, shelter, and a supportive ear, their guest isn't ready to divulge her secrets.

Why I purchased this: The Whispered Word is a bookclub read for Feb and I love Ellery Adams. She wrote two of my favorite cozy mystery series (Charmed Pie Shoppe Mysteries & Books by the Bay Mysteries ) so this was an easy sell. I have not read/listened to the first one but I am going to go back and do that. As always, her books are filled with a solid mystery and even better characters. I like they each have flaws but work through them the same way we do. I also really like Abilene and how the society rallied around her. Overall, a really great listen!

Audio Thoughts: I am a huge fan of Cris Dukehart (I think that comes to as no surprise to anyone) and she again delivered. She brought humanity, individuality, and beauty to each of these characters!

Quick Thoughts: OMG this was so good! I put off listening to it for awhile because of the sad timing of when it all came together. It is such a fascinating case but even more fascinating is seeing how Michelle followed the case. I truly miss her presence in the True Crime Arena.

Audio Thoughts: Gabra Zackman absolutely delivered. True Crime is tricky cause you have to balance a journalistic type of voice with a story telling voice---aka you want the facts to come across but you don't want to be to matter of fact with the details. She brought the right balance of straight forward storytelling and humanity to the story.

It’s true. I’m not what most people would call “pretty” and, well, high school was rough. Fast forward ten years and life is good, until a bunch of jerks think it’s hilarious to put the “butterface” (AKA me) on a wedding Kiss Cam with the hottest guy ever - and that old humiliation hits hard. I recognize him immediately. The hottest cop in Waterbury and totally out of my league. But then he kisses me. And we totally forget the room, the crowd, everything. Then he tells everyone we’ve been dating for months.

Quick Thoughts: I think the "ugly" comments went on a little to long but outside of that I really enjoyed Butterface. Gina was fantastic and her friends were a hoot. Ford was a hunky rule follower that made me smile and I loved his family. I am going to have to go read Felicia's book :) Overall this was fun and I am really looking forward to the rest of The Hartigans!

Audio Thoughts: Narrated by Brian Pallino and Savannah Peachwood ---- NAILED IT! Seriously it was so good in audio form and I highly recommend it!

The moment Sadie Matthews walks through the daycare center door, I feel my world tilt in her direction. Again. I fell for her when I was 14, and I’m still not over her. Problem: She still thinks of me as a teen she used to babysit. But I’ve learned a few things about pleasing a woman in the last 15 years. I can’t wait to show her how good it could be. I need to move quickly before I lose her again. This is more than a game to me, but I still plan to win.

Quick Thoughts: This was not my favorite of the Man Hands series but it still had tons of fun moments. My problem lies strictly with age thing going on too long. To be fair, I just didn't see a 6 year difference (35, 29) as a big deal but the characters did. So while this bugged me that it kept being brought up, it will not hinder someone else's enjoyment of the story. Liam and Sadie were adorable together. They had hot chemistry both in and out of bed. Liam was an especially great character. So while parts of the story did not work for me, the couple really did. Plus the little girls were downright adorable!

Audio Thoughts: Tanya Eby and Teddy Hamilton killed the narration. It was fun, sexy, sassy, and snort worthy. All things required for this story!

Quick Thoughts: This was a great collection of stories set back before the age of cellphones. My favorites were set in the 70s, 80s but all of them held charm! The stories range from first love, enduring love, and learning to love. I highly recommend it because I think everyone will find one that they relate too.

Audio Thoughts: Every narrator brought it. Not a single time did I feel like the narrator did not fit the story. It was fantastic through and through!

Quick Thoughts: Fun Listen/Read---this is only my 2nd Penny Reid book but she is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors. I love her humor! Nico was hot. Elizabeth was a hot mess. They were a great couple. I like characters with flaws that recognize them but don't always have the answer to overcome it. It makes the journey a lot of fun!

Audio Thoughts: Devra Woodward did a good job with the narration. I think she does one more in the series. This series does not have consistent narrators and while normally that drives me nuts so far the two different females have similar styles. That made the transition easy :)

Contemporary Romance isn't generally my thing but I like the ones that make me smile. This checks off all those boxes. So check it out if fun contemporary romance is your thing.

Audio Thoughts: I really loved Grace's narration but Jessie's narration never quite won me over. Overall though it was still a good listen.

He's inherited a title, but not a penny to speak of, so the Earl of Rochdale knows he must find a wife - preferably one tolerably pretty and good-tempered but definitely wealthy, and who will exchange her fortune for his family name. His choice: Leonie Charnock, one of the season's "Spinster Heiresses". Years before, the earl had saved the dark-eyed beauty's reputation, and she is still breathtakingly lovely, leading Rochdale to hope that their marriage will be more than in name only.

Story/Character thoughts: I want to state that while Leonie was a very hard character to like at times, her story was compelling. This is not the normal light heart read that Cathy usually gives us but it was very well done indeed! I think she did a great job of handling issues surrounding drinking, in a time where that wasn't talked about much. Also I liked the slow burn of the romance even when I wasn't a fan of Leonie. In the end, it worked for me!

Audio Thoughts: Mary Jane Wells killed the audio as always :) :)

Concerned that technology is about to chase mythological creatures out into the open (how long can Sasquatch stay hidden from Google maps?), the League for Interspecies Cooperation is sending Jillian to Louisiana on a fact-finding mission. While the League hopes to hold on to secrecy for a little bit longer, they're preparing for the worst in terms of human reactions. They need a plan, so they look to Mystic Bayou, a tiny town hidden in the swamp where humans and supernatural residents have been living in harmony for generations.

Quick Story/Character thoughts: This is a fun new series that brings everything I love about Molly Harper's quirky sense of humor into her characters. I love Mystic Bayou and how she has set the ground work for a fantastic series. Much like I claimed Dick in Jane's series, I am claiming Zed in this one :) However, you are really gonna love Jillian and Bael *snort* Bill! They are fun, hot, snarky, and perfectly imperfect which makes them fun. Also hot bedroom just saying :)

Audio Thoughts: Amanda Ronconi is perfect for Molly's humor and she does a fantastic job. Jonathon brings the perfect level of growly male to really hook you. They both did a fantastic job and it was a fun listen!
