You define life or it defines you. In Shawn Speakman’s case, it was both. Lacking health insurance and diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma in 2011, Shawn quickly accrued a massive medical debt that he did not have the ability to pay. That’s when New York Times best-selling author Terry Brooks offered to donate a short story that Shawn could sell to help alleviate those bills—and suggested he ask the same of his other writer friends. Unfettered is the result: An anthology built in order to relieve that debt, featuring short stories by some of the best fantasy writers in the genre.

If I had listened to this in order to see if I liked the authors, I would have missed out on books that I currently have and enjoy.

Were I to grade the stories, Patrick Rothfuss had to come in at the bottom, but not by much. Robert Jordan's story only made sense if you were well versed in the Wheel of Time series, even then it was not that good... but I at least remember some of it.

I only hope this went for a good cause...

The unthinkable has occurred in the kingdom of Lyonya. The queen of the Elves - known as the Lady - is dead, murdered by former elves twisted by dark powers. Now the Lady’s half-elven grandson must heal the mistrust between elf and human before their enemies strike again. Yet as he struggles to make ready for an attack, an even greater threat looms across the Eight Kingdoms.Throughout the north, magic is reappearing after centuries of absence, emerging without warning in family after family - rich and poor alike.

Had I read the book myself then perhaps I would know if this narrator or the other narrators mispronounced so many names and titles...

Still it is a good story, even if it jumps around in what I can only guess is time and space to try to get things to line up chronologically.

Alastar has settled into his role as the Maitre of the Collegium. Now married with a daughter, he would like nothing better than to focus his efforts on improving Imager Isle and making it more self-sufficient. However, the rise in fortune of the merchant classes in Solidar over the years does not sit well with the High Holders, who see the erosion of their long-enjoyed privileges. Bad harvests and worse weather spark acts of violence and murder.

I enjoyed this book as I have enjoyed the rest of the imager books and that the books could be divided into 3 sets makes it easier to not get tired of them before they're finished.
My only issues were that many of the first names were the same as used in other books in the series, yet I can't remember any matching names in the first 2 sets of books. the second thing was the reader changed how he pronounced the names between the first and second books of this set.

I have listened to this selection at least twice, the reader seemed to have an issue with the timing and a number of the words, both I found irritating to say the least. Her voices were all whining, shrill or just off.

The story started out with a decent premise, but it expanded and got bigger at every turn until the only thing left that seemed to be able to fight the evil thing that can swallow whole dragons was a living mountain... and all the bad guys like to eat mass quantities of people...
