Is there anything you would change about this book?

I found the story to be dark. Too dark for my taste. The way children, are treated in this book is, to me, unthinkable. I did not enjoy it.

What was most disappointing about Orson Scott Card’s story?

No humor.

What about the narrators’s performance did you like?

Narrator did a good job jumping from character to character the whole thing was very clear.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

No.

Any additional comments?

Well written but not for everyone.

What disappointed you about Red Rising?

It's a brutal story with plot twists. The biggest problem is that those twists you can see coming . I never like a story where I'm one-two--three steps ahead of the characters in it. The main character is supposed to brilliant and yet, conveniently makes stupid mistakes that are, I believe, intended to surprise and astound. It fails. It just left me shaking me head in amazement at how awful this plot is.

Has Red Rising turned you off from other books in this genre?

No, I really like the genre and will continue to look for GOOD stories utilizing it.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

I think Tim Reynolds did a fine job. A little melodramatic at times, but overall, very nicely done.

What character would you cut from Red Rising?

I would cut Darrow. Eo would have made a much better protagonist.

Any additional comments?

I hung in until the very end just in case it changed my mind with its ending. If anything, the ending solidified my opinion that this was not worth the time and I will not download anymore in this series.

What made the experience of listening to The Mermaid Murders the most enjoyable?

I like the two investigators: Kennedy and West. I liked Kennedy the most just because he seemed to more complex of the two. The story moved along nicely and the plot works well. The ending wasn't a huge surprise but I enjoyed the way it unfolded. The writing is very good.

What did you like best about this story?

It has some good psychological insights and I like that both Kennedy and West are pretty self-aware individuals. I liked that their relationship is complicated and hard to define. It left me wanting to read the next installment in this series.

Have you listened to any of Kale Williams’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have not heard Kale Williams before. He has a beautiful voice and he's quite enjoyable to spend 7 hours with. One minor thing - he has a not-so-great New England accent. I'm from there, and there is a distinct sound to the way people talk. It's not a big deal - it's actually hard to fake. People think you just drop the 'r's on words and you're done. It was just a little thing and it made me smile. I would be happy to have Mr. Williams narrate again for me anytime.

Who was the most memorable character of The Mermaid Murders and why?

Kennedy -- he's sexy, mysterious, complex, masculine, smart, and he has the good taste to hook up with a guy who I think is really good for him.

Any additional comments?

The characters ring true and the writing gives them life. The mystery is solid and the story is well paced. If you're on the fence, should I or shouldn't I buy it -- I'd say buy it -- you'll have a good time with this one.

If you could sum up Lord Edgware Dies in three words, what would they be?

Predictable but entertaining

Would you recommend Lord Edgware Dies to your friends? Why or why not?

For a Christie fan - sure, include it as part of the complete collection. For anyone looking for a Christie recommendation - I'd say look to some other titles first. In this one, Hastings is particularly and frustratingly thick-headed. Sure, it's a good device to use for inserting exposition, but come on. There are a few too many clues held back until the big reveal at the end. Despite that, even with the missing clues, the real killer is pretty obvious as are the red herrings.

What does Hugh Fraser bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Hugh Fraser is wonderful in this as he is in all of his work. He brings the story to life.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I like walking through Poirot and Hasting's world with them - even if I didn't think this was the greatest story. It is still a great and entertaining escape.

Any additional comments?

I think this has been released under other titles. It gets a bit confusing when so many of Christie's stories are repackaged in this way.

Where does Stormhaven rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Stormhaven is a book that is most eye-opening if you have already read the preceding books. The emotional, somewhat turbulent, ever-colorful life that our heroes live is never more engaging and surprising.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

The plot kept me guessing, and I'm usually pretty good at predicting where a story is going. I like that. This one had many twists and turns that were hard to see coming.

Did Julian G. Simmons do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

Well, Julian, I'm sure, is a wonderful person, however, he will never be my favorite narrator. That said, the story is easy to follow with each character having some distinctive quality to the way they are voiced.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

An eventful romp by the sea with the Whyborne family.

Any additional comments?

The ending ended up being a surprise for sure. Glad to have gotten all the way to the end.

Full of clear true characters that spring to life in the most entertains way, it was hard to pause the audio playback for those annoying intrusions like work and sleep. I hope there will be sequels. Narrator does a truly Amazing job! I highly recommend this.

I love the setting - Cairo, desert, camels, ancient ruins. Fast-paced and inventive - it's fun and sexy and a fast read. I guess with all of these books I find myself wishing they were longer. I wanted a lot more backstory on some of the non-regular characters. I guess that says it all when you end the book wanting more. Christine is my favorite and she had a central role in this story. I am quickly on to the next installment.

Other reviewers did an accurate job with praise and criticism. I agree that the whispered passages were much too soft for an audio book. The narrator was not my favorite but he is passable. The intimate moments were erotic without being overdone. The main story flew along nicely. As someone else said, the time period seemed uncertain at the beginning and could have been written better. Overall a nice bit of escapism.
