Five years ago, the US Space Force became a reality. And while those writing the checks took things very seriously, the other military branches did not. As a result, Space Force was populated by undesirables: men and women who made too many mistakes, didn't follow the rules, or...slept with the wrong general's daughter. Three times. On camera. It was a mistake, okay? My name is Captain Ethan Stone, a decorated member of SEAL Team Six turned Space Force "recruit".

Captain Tess Bailey is in deep trouble. She and her crew are on the run, pursued by a tyrant who'll take them dead or alive. Tess's best hope is a tall, dark, and much-too-appealing stranger, Shade Ganavan, who says he can help her. But his motivations are far from clear. With the dreaded Dark Watch closing in, what Tess and Shade don't know about each other might get them killed, unless they can set aside their differences and learn to trust each other before it's too late.

I really like the story and the narrator is terrific. My f...bomb filter was on overdrive! The author clearly has a very limited vocabulary and pretty exclusively uses the f...work as her choice for most adjectives, adverbs and a lot of verbs. I get a little for highly inflammatory situations but this was like verbal assault. The story is really good and a really nice twist for space opera, just wish for less crusty language.

War heroes aren't usually called out of semi-retirement and sent to the far reaches of the galaxy for a routine investigation. So when Colonel Carl Butler answers the call from an old and powerful friend, he knows it's something big - and he's not being told the whole story. A high councilor's son has gone MIA out of Cappa Base, the space station orbiting a battle-ravaged planet. The young lieutenant had been wounded and evacuated - but there's no record of him having ever arrived at hospital command.

This is like Harry Bosch meets Joe Bishop; a great military detective story set in space! The main character is witty and has the crusty military attitude down pat. His instinctive approach to cut through the standard military B.S. makes for a great story that's entertaining and for space opera...pretty believable. R.C. Bray is the perfect narrator.
