When Monster Hunter International's top hunter, Owen Zastava Pitt, was given a tip about some hunters who had gone missing in action, he didn't realize their rescue mission would snowball into the single biggest operation in MHI's history. Their men are being held prisoner in a horrific nightmare dimension, and the only way to reach them is through the radioactive ruins of a monster-infested war zone. As if that wasn't bad enough, it's also the home base of the powerful creature behind the devastating attacks on the Last Dragon and Copper Lake.

The narrator is fantastic, the story was pretty good as well, but the author tends to spend way too much time describing a fight scene. There is a lot of stuff left hanging at the end of the book, so I will have to wait for the next one in the series.

It kind of drags from time to time, and while the basic story is good, I had to force myself to keep listening at different points. I found the ending abrupt. I’m on the fence whether I want to get the next one in the series or not. This could’ve been one of the best books I’ve listened to in a long time, but parts of it just fell flat, and I’m not really sure why.

The premise of the story is interesting, but the writer seems to be stuck in a teenage mind set. Yes, we all have sex and sex is fine to put in a book. But I think the emphasis on sex took away a bit from the story. Let’s develop some of those other characters some more. I hope that as the writer producer some more work in the series that he matures a little more. I think it’s got real potential, and I actually will buy the next set of books just to see what happens.

OK, I gave the story three stars even though it was a pretty good book. I just hate it when you get to the end of the book and all of a sudden it just chops off with a “to be continued.” I realize that sometimes books get a bit long, but I think there are places to break them up that make more sense and are less jarring.

The constant chimes as the character would “level up” were annoying. I found the main characters to be rather one dimensional. The story line was too simple, and not gritty enough. We don’t really know much about what drives the main character even at the end of the story. Also, there seems to be an amazing cornucopia of found items. Reminds me a bit of the ship on the Swiss family Robinson that provided just about anything they could ever need. I probably wouldn’t have finished it, but I figured since I had already paid for it I might as well listen on the off chance that it would improve. Unfortunately it didn’t. The narrator was pretty good.
