Twelve-year-old Zero is traveling with 20,000 people for 105 years to colonize a new planet. Everyone is in stasis, so they'll be safe during the trip, but when Zero's pod malfunctions it wakes him early, like 105 years early. At first he's excited to be the only one awake - he has the entire ship to himself, so he can go anywhere and see and do and eat anything he wants - but when a family of space pirates show up, trying to hijack the ship and kidnap the colonizers, Zero has to think fast and find a way to stop them all on his own.

Set in the pre-Christian world of Glome on the outskirts of Greek civilization, it is a tale of two princesses: the beautiful Psyche, who is loved by the god of love himself, and Orual, Psyche's unattractive and embittered older sister, who loves Psyche with a destructive possessiveness. Her frustration and jealousy over Psyche's fate sets Orual on the troubled path of self-discovery. Lewis's last work of fiction, this is often considered his best by critics.

The story itself was compelling, and it was amazing to listen to Diane Guerrero speak of her experiences, through her own voice inflection. The voice was definitely millennial though, as I had to wonder on occasion if she actually wrote some of her phrasing into the text version of the book-as her voice inflection as an interjection was the only thing that made some of it work.

But such study offers rewards beyond compare: to stand in a dragon's presence, even for the briefest of moments - even at the risk of one's life - is a delight that, once experienced, can never be forgotten….All the world, from Scirland to the farthest reaches of Eriga, know Isabella, Lady Trent, to be the world's preeminent dragon naturalist.

Wonderfully done. I listened to it with my 10 year old son, and both of us were enthralled and engaged. Great performance of a wonderful story. Really appreciate that the main character is an outspoken female, who is able to navigate the sexism around her. Also really appreciate how the author was able to make such a fantastic adventure so relateable. I could almost believe there were Victorian era dragons flying about.

I picked up this book for a book club reading. I wasn't sure what to expect, being told the book was chosen because the main character was a gay Latino that solves crimes. I was concerned the story would be gimmicky-appealing to only a niche group-but was pleasantly surprised. Though a bit dated [I had to explain to someone how an answering machine worked] the story was compelling, and well narrated-with the plot line taking center stage. I will be continuing the series.

By the end, I felt like Glennon was a trusted friend and counselor. It wasn't until later I found out that in real life, she is not the person she portrays herself to be in the book, and felt deeply and profoundly betrayed by the fact this book is mis-categorized as non fiction.

I picked this up as I thought it would be entertaining-an economic analysis of a fictional, post-scarcity place. I'm not a "Trekkie", so I think some points may have been lost on me, but it was engaging as an analysis of theory, and rather comical in presentation. I may need to go watch a few episode of Star Trek, and re-listen at some point of the future.

I started listening just because it was in my library but after a couple chapters I was locked in. The writing and the narration are great. There are a few points where there are cheesy music interludes as transitions, but overall very good forward motion in the story lines. I will definitely be picking up more from the series.
