Twelve-year-old Zero is traveling with 20,000 people for 105 years to colonize a new planet. Everyone is in stasis, so they'll be safe during the trip, but when Zero's pod malfunctions it wakes him early, like 105 years early. At first he's excited to be the only one awake - he has the entire ship to himself, so he can go anywhere and see and do and eat anything he wants - but when a family of space pirates show up, trying to hijack the ship and kidnap the colonizers, Zero has to think fast and find a way to stop them all on his own.

loved the narration. Effects reminded me of the radio stories from back in my childhood. A ship, pirates, interesting bits of science, and even a bad guy turned good. all good old fashion adventure with a futuristic twist.

Following a humiliating fourth season in London, Lady Elizabeth Fraser is on her way back to her ancestral country estate when her train careens off the rails and bursts into flames. Though she is injured, she manages to drag herself and her unconscious mother out of the wreckage, and amid the chaos that ensues, a brilliant young railway surgeon saves her mother's life. Elizabeth feels an immediate connection with Paul Wilcox - though society would never deem a medical man eligible for the daughter of an earl.

The train line plot was nicely done. Though the main character is smart she's pretty predictable. The doctor and journalist were much more interesting and seemed to rob the scene every time.
The narrator has a beautiful voice, her male and female characters were believable. However, the cadence and intonation she uses for the main character make her sound as she is about to weep all the time, which was kind of annoying.

What did you love best about Horton Hears a Who?

The story is great on its own, but Mr. Hoffman's voice surely brings it to life. My 3-year old loves hearing it over and over, and knows it almost all by heart.

the story was well told. the pace is moderate in most sections and some parts are actually far paced. some unsolved issues but all minor. i would recommend this as a light reading.
someone mentioned the main character was too young to understand the full extent of what was said to him. as a mom and aunt to some precocious young boys, I'll have to disagree. they might not understand everything, but they can understand enough (and then some )

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I would recommend this book. The story is fun, characters are interesting and find themselves in crazy situations that keep you entertained.

Who was your favorite character and why?

The mother of the main male character is a funny secondary character. The main characters are what you learn to expect from Heyer.

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

He can't help being nasal so there's little he can do.

What would have made this romance irresistible?

It already is irresistible!

Would you try another book from Georgette Heyer and/or Phyllida Nash?

I would and have tried other books by the author and narrator. Heyer is an enjoyable author and Phyllida Nash's is a wonderful narrator.

If you’ve listened to books by Georgette Heyer before, how does this one compare?

Faro's Daughter, The Grand Sophy, Venetia, Frederica, Devil's Cub and The Unknown Ajax are my favorite. The stories tie up so well and the characters are fun and vibrant. Not so in this book.
