There are a lot of books on story structure, but only The Plot Machine presents a step-by-step guide to designing a story. In clear, precise language, this guide discusses the various types of stories we tell, their specific parts, and how they are assembled. Say good-bye to staring at the blank page waiting for lightning to strike. Just put a few coins in the plot machine, and write better stories faster.

As members of society we all have experienced mind control or used mind-control techniques in one form or another. Whether it's under the guise of manipulation, persuasion, deception, or hypnosis we all have encountered or utilized it. Advertisers and marketers use these aforementioned mind-control techniques to get us to feel a certain way about their products and services with the intentions of getting us to purchase them. Politicians use them to get us to support and vote for them.

John Taylor Gatto's Weapons of Mass Instruction focuses on mechanisms of traditional education which cripple imagination, discourage critical thinking, and create a false view of learning as a byproduct of rote-memorization drills. Gatto's earlier book, Dumbing Us Down, introduced the now-famous expression of the title into the common vernacular. Weapons of Mass Instruction adds another chilling metaphor to the brief against conventional schooling.
