Sweetbitter meets The Nightingale in this pause-resisting novel about a woman who returns to her family’s ancestral vineyard in Burgundy and unexpectedly uncovers a lost diary, an unknown relative, and a secret her family has been keeping since World War II. To become one of only a few hundred certified wine experts in the world, Kate must pass the notoriously difficult Master of Wine examination. She’s failed twice before; her third attempt will be her last chance.

I enjoyed reading this story with its twists and turns as entangled as the grape vines in the vineyard. Perhaps the intrigue of the novel is about finding the unsettling truth of ones family history and coming to a place of rest with the painful details.

I love historical fiction, however, this book is a reach if you are looking for a novel with a lot of history woven into the story. I don’t mind a little romance but didn’t care for the detail of physical intimacy in this novel. If you are a romance fan and love farcical stories with little to no meaning; this book is for you.
