With thousands of trapped travelers and scarce law enforcement, the miles between Jim Powell and his family become a brutal gauntlet where the rules of civilized society no longer apply. I would have given this book 5 stars but the F bomb was used way to much. Women in my circle do not use the F word. I don’t understand why some authors who are supposed to be intelligent have to describe bad scenes with extremely foul language. I listen to my audio books while driving with my wife and sometimes my granddaughter and I do not want them subjected to this kind of unintelligent writing. Unless I’m given proof that the author has cleaned up his act, I won’t be purchasing anymore of his books. Kevin Pearce needs to rethink his choice of authors who he narrates for. Kevin you are much better than this.

It's been two weeks since the EMP. Getting out was just the beginning. Staying alive is proving harder than anyone could have imagined. Max knows people will come from the cities. He knows they'll be ready to fight, to do whatever it takes to ensure their own survival. Will he be able to lead the others in the defense of the farmhouse, even when he's still recovering from his injuries? Georgia is in charge of hunting. Each trip into the woods brings her closer to danger. It's just a matter of time before she runs into people who will do anything to get her gun and her gear. How dangerous do things have to get before she stops trying to provide for her kids? John is Max's estranged brother. He'd always made fun of Max for worrying about being prepared. Now, he's trapped in his upscale apartment with no gear and no food.

In 2003, software engineer David Miller left his job, family, and friends to hike 2,172 miles of the Appalachian Trail. AWOL on the Appalachian Trail is Miller’s account of this thru-hike from Georgia to Maine. Listeners are treated to rich descriptions of the Appalachian Mountains, the isolation and reverie, the inspiration that fueled his quest, and the rewards of taking a less conventional path through life. While this book abounds with introspection and perseverance, it also provides useful passages about hiking gear and planning.

I really enjoyed the story but when you have to use the F word 5 times in a row to let listeners know what an old fart is saying about not carrying a knife is appallingly. I get the point when you tell us he uses the F word 5 times telling me what a fool you were not to have one, I get the point. I have my granddaughter in the car with me when I listen to these stories and I had hoped this one was not R-rated. I would have given it a 5 star for the the story if not for this.
