The story could have probably been a novella. it was long a drawn out. None of the characters had any redeeming qualities. But I do hope in another book, Brent and his wife get what's coming to them.

There are not enough words to describe how much I love this novel. So many emotions. The speculative fiction aspect left me speechless. Octavia Butler did such a great job with this story. There were so many layers. It's hours later, Doro and Ayunwu are still on my mind.

Caren Gray manages Belle Vie, a sprawling antebellum plantation that sits between Baton Rouge and New Orleans, where the past and the present coexist uneasily. The estate's owners have turned the place into an eerie tourist attraction, complete with full-dress re-enactments and carefully restored slave quarters. Outside the gates, a corporation with ambitious plans has been busy snapping up land from struggling families who have been growing sugar cane for generations, and now replacing local employees with illegal laborers. Tensions mount when the body of a female migrant worker is found in a shallow grave on the edge of the property.

While I loved the book, I hated the ending. Why couldn't Caren and Eric be together? What happened to Donovan after all the madness? The ending was flat. What was Caren going to do when she got to Washington?

What did you love best about Hood Misfits Volume 1?

Trigger is a great leader. He led Diamond and the rest of the team to freedom, albeit, bloody.

What did you like best about this story?

It was well written and paid attention to detail.

What does Paula Jai Parker and James Edward Shippy bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I loved the fact they changed their voices to portray each character. Truly enjoyed Shippy's voice.

If you could take any character from Hood Misfits Volume 1 out to dinner, who would it be and why?

Trigga. I'd like to pick his brain.

Any additional comments?

When is part two coming out?
