Like weak mother, like weak daughter

I’ve been s big fan of Karin Slaughter but this book is page after page of self doubting, questioning, insecure women. Scene after scene of tears and hesitation with lucky outcomes. The narrator was terrific but the characters - ugh. So predictable.

Did I miss something?
Reviewed: 01-03-18
I'm a couple of chapters in. It's not bad, but I keep thinking I must have missed a prologue or 1st book. What is the setting? How did the characters end up there? What time period are we in (I mean, they're practicing mysticals, but still being taught how to put condoms on bananas?). How did Lily get there, and why just one sentence to explain that her mother drowned? I'll keep going, but before I do, I wish someone would let me know if there's another book I should read first?

Narration Ruined It

The narration ruined this book for me. Inflection, speed, nasal tone ... awful. I zoned out half way through, so I can't fairly rate the rest of the story.

Struggled to finish

Ugh. This book was neither mysterious nor thrilling. There was no plot twist. It was like a Tuesday night Lifetime movie - totally predictable. If anything, recommend it as a book for expectant mothers on the baby bonding process. I gave it two stars overall because i enjoyed the narration.

Only half-way through listening to this book and I'm not sure I will finish. The narration is awful. The narrator is so slow and deliberate that it sounds like she's at "read to me" day at Kindergarten. Please tell me it gets better.
