Easy book to listen to, not terribly suspenseful, and quite predictable, but entertaining enough to keep you listening nonetheless. I wouldn’t recommend to readers who like mystery or suspense novels, they’d be disappointed in the predictability.

The protagonist in the story is a selfish brat who sees herself as a princess. She’s not only selfish and annoying, but she’s not intelligent or intuitive. I found myself calling her an idiot throughout the entire reading. The father is a total moron and the trouble he brought upon the family is second only to the idiotic acts of the protagonist.
I don’t recommend this book to anyone. My 15 year old was made to listen to this and report on it. He didn’t like it either.
I’m annoyed just thinking about the books characters.

Zane Phillips mistook me for his dog walker. It shouldn’t surprise me that the man with a suit more expensive than my rent would assume that I was there to serve him. The positive? I put him in his place. The negative? I missed my job interview because of it. Now I find out he’s a rich Australian entrepreneur, and he wants to make up for tanking my interview. Yes, he’s impossibly hot - but he’s also an arrogant jackass - so...no thanks. But after a little white lie I tell spirals out of control, I’m somehow offered the chance to play Zane’s girlfriend to help promote his new dating website....

In December 2017 the famous porn star August Ames committed suicide in a park in the Conejo Valley. It happened a day after she’d been the victim of a pile-on, via Twitter, by fellow porn professionals - punishment for her tweeting something deemed homophobic. A month later, August’s husband, Kevin, connected with Jon Ronson to tell the story of how Twitter bullying killed his wife. What neither Kevin nor Ronson realized was that Ronson would soon hear rumors and secrets hinting at a very different story - something mysterious and unexpected and terrible.

I had no expectations with this audible selection as I decided to listen to it because it was the free selection in January. I didn’t realize until it started that it was the true account of porn star, August Ames. I found myself enthralled by the story and people and personalities. At the end, I had a great sense of sadness for August and the other women and men in the porn industry. I don’t watch it not do I have any interest in porn. This story, if a listener IS indeed into porn, will make you think twice about it. It’s a dark world and this audible sheds light on it.

Jon Ronson’s voice is calm and steady and drew me in as always.
