On Christmas Eve, 1818, in a small Austrian village, a local Catholic priest and a church organist composed a Christmas carol that changed the course of holiday music forever. Exactly two hundred years later, it’s not the holiday season until you’ve heard “Silent Night” in the car, at the store and on TV – all in the same day.

In Jingle Bell Pop, John Seabrook, acclaimed author of The Song Machine, takes us deep inside the holiday music business. We go behind the scenes to meet some of the producers, songwriters and recording artists responsible for the timeless tunes we hear on repeat between Thanksgiving and Christmas every year.

This is a break from the normal neighborhood for Myrtle. And while the gnomes don't go on the cruise, she finds a way to show Red her displeasure, despite being in Alaskan waters. We save goodbye to Irma Sherman for a while and meet some new characters...some annoying, some more annoying. But Myrtle and An unwilling Miles figure it out. Lots of salmon is consumed. Overall, an enjoyable book. Changes in narrators is unsettling at first, but Judy Blue does a fine job.

Welcome to Nocturne Falls, the town that celebrates Halloween 365 days a year. The tourists think it's all a show: the vampires, the werewolves, the witches, the occasional gargoyle flying through the sky. But the supernaturals populating the town know better. Living in Nocturne Falls means being yourself. Fangs, fur, and all. Death is what grim reaper Lucien Dupree knows best. Or rather, he did until his reaping powers became tragically unreliable. Now he’s living in a self-imposed exile to keep humanity safe. Sure, it’s a lonely existence, but it’s the best thing for everyone.

Nobody loves an honest man, or that was what police sergeant Hamish Macbeth tried to tell newcomer Paul English. Paul had moved to a house in Cnothan, a sour village on Hamish's beat. He attended church in Lochdubh. He told the minister, Mr. Wellington, that his sermons were boring. He told tweedy Mrs. Wellington that she was too fat and in these days of increasing obesity it was her duty to show a good example. Angela Brody was told her detective stories were pap for the masses and it was time she wrote literature instead. He accused Hamish of having dyed his fiery red hair.

Graeme Malcolm is one of my favorite narrators. A soothing voice, perfect inflection, he bring the story to life. This is a good Hamish story, the author selecting a vice and showing a character wearing it as a badge of honor. The bad guys get theirs, Hamish figures things out, and life in Lochdub goes on. A good Audiobook to listen to again and again

I love this beginning to the series. The funny characters, great storyline, unexpected twists. Having a ghost mother in law following you around (forever?) is motivation enough to whatever it takes to have her "move on". I loved the part where she stood dress in the street, thinking, if i died, i could be trapped in limbo with her...forever.
Very clever. Perfect narrator, she does a wonderful job infusing life into each voice.
