Any additional comments?

I really enjoyed this book, read it in one day. But after finishing it I was left a little unsettled. The public airing of grievances with her family just bothered me. It felt one-sided, and left me wondering what was the point of the book? How could a child publicly shame her parents in such a cruel way?

My father grew up in Malad, where part of the book takes place. I spent a lot of time there, on the family farm, while growing up and I can tell you small town culture, especially compounded with Mormonism, can be so unforgiving. Sure her parents did and believe some pretty stupid stuff. Sure there are some serious issues with her brother Shawn and his abuse. Sure Tara was fortunate to escape that life. And sure it's an interesting story that is thought provoking. But in the end, I can't even imagine the betrayal and embarrassment this book may have cause her family.

Was it worth it Tara? Did you get the need closure from your family and upbringing? Was publicly shaming Shawn, his wife, and your parents bring what ever result you were hoping for? Did they change? Did they acknowledge their mistakes?

What did you like best about The Darkest Minds? What did you like least?

I found the author hard to follow and at times totally lost. A stronger editor could have made a difference.

Has The Darkest Minds turned you off from other books in this genre?

Yep, I won't be reading any of the other books in this series.

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

Narrator, was fine.

Did The Darkest Minds inspire you to do anything?

Yes, I purchased Zero Hour: Expeditionary Force, Book 5, by Craig Alanson. I much more enjoyable series.

Any additional comments?

Skip this book. There are so many better ones to read.

Iron Gold audiobook cover art

Just not as good as the other books...

Would you consider the audio edition of Iron Gold to be better than the print version?

What was one of the most memorable moments of Iron Gold?

The story of Lyria of Lagalos really just needs to be deleted. Part because it adds no real value to the overall story and part because the narration is horrible. I finally got to the point were i just fast-forwarded her chapters. Didn't end up missing a thing and saved myself having to listen to that whiny high pitched voice.

What three words best describe the narrators’s voice?

Lyria of Lagalos narrator - Whiny, high pitched, awful.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Some sequels are just best left unwritten.

What did you like best about Gosnell? What did you like least?

Interesting detail on "America's Most Prolific Serial Killer"

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

There was no real ending.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

The author should have never read this. Too biased, with an agenda to push. Oh and did I mention she says:
"America's Most Prolific Serial Killer"
"America's Most Prolific Serial Killer"
"America's Most Prolific Serial Killer"
"America's Most Prolific Serial Killer"
"America's Most Prolific Serial Killer"
"America's Most Prolific Serial Killer"
"America's Most Prolific Serial Killer"
Over and over and over?

Any additional comments?

Honestly, if the author removed the overly used phrase "America's Most Prolific Serial Killer" this book would be an hour or two shorter. I found myself interested in hearing more about Dr. Gosnell, but really grew to dislike the author's biased, agenda pushing narrative. This book would be far more interesting and powerful if the facts were layout and the listener was allowed to navigate it.
