The narrator made Amos Decker sound like a 14 year old boy. I had a hard time listening because it was a great distraction. I kept trying to figure out how he could perform other male voices, but make the main character's voice so wrong. Maybe I was spoiled by the narrator of the Memory Man, Ron McLarty, which is why I purchased this book in the first place. I will buy the printed edition of the other books in the series instead. Very disappointed!

An IndiBound best seller, The Days of Abandonment shocked and captivated its Italian public when first published. It is the gripping story of a woman's descent into devastating emptiness after being abandoned by her husband, with two young children to care for. When she finds herself literally trapped within the four walls of their high-rise apartment, she is forced to confront her ghosts, the potential loss of her own identity, and the possibility that life may never return to normal.

What disappointed you about The Days of Abandonment?

It just drug on and on without coming to a point. I kept hoping there would be some redeeming value to spending this much time listening, but I just can't finish it. I want to poke my eardrums with a shrimp fork.

Has The Days of Abandonment turned you off from other books in this genre?

Probably not, I read all kinds of books, but I will pay more attention to the reviews hereafter.

What three words best describe Hillary Huber’s performance?

She's a trooper.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Tiredness. Just wore me out.

Any additional comments?

It's really a rare thing that I can't hang with a book, even a mediocre one. But this one..........I just can't do it.

It is Nick and Amy Dunne's fifth wedding anniversary. Presents are being wrapped and reservations are being made when Nick's clever and beautiful wife disappears from their rented McMansion on the Mississippi River. Husband-of-the-Year Nick isn't doing himself any favors with cringe-worthy daydreams. Under mounting pressure from the police and the media - as well as Amy's fiercely doting parents - the town golden boy parades an endless series of lies, deceits, and inappropriate behavior. Nick is oddly evasive, and he's definitely bitter - but is he really a killer?

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would recommend to a friend. It was such a psychologically disturbing story that I can't quit thinking about it.

Which character ??? as performed by Julia Whelan and Kirby Heyborne ??? was your favorite?

I pretty much hated all of the characters in the book, but the performances of Whelan and Heyborne were excellent.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I did have an extreme reaction to the book. Early in the book, I was appalled by the behavior of everyone involved. It was like that train wreck that you just can't turn away from. You don't want to see the horrible thing that is happening, but you can't stand not knowing, either. It didn't make me laugh or cry, but I was so tense the entire time I listened that it made me very tired.

What did you love best about Love in the Time of Dragons?

Love the premise of the main character discovering who she really is and her prior affiliations.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

The narrator was just annoying. Her voice cuts right through me all of the time regardless of what character is speaking. The swallowing was very distracting. I've persevered hoping that the narrator would grow on me as others have. I'm within an hour of finishing the book, but I'm actually talking aloud to the narrator at this point just wishing it were over with.

Any additional comments?

If I live through this, I won't be listening to the other books in the series because of the narrator. I might read them instead if I still care about the characters in the end. I love Katie MacKalister's books and have listened to several and enjoyed them, but not by this narrator.
