I liked the narration and the story well enough but this had a man enormous plot hole that just couldn’t be ignored.

Also Geoffrey needed proper therapy... an “I love you” is not the be all and end all to trauma.

Foxling Toka has served the Soldati king for centuries, and now he attends to the kingdom’s cherished Soldati prince. It’s a position of honor, and as Toka helps the once-human prince adapt to their magical realm, he finds joy in their friendship. He also grows bolder in his encounters with Rayner, a Soldati warrior and the king’s second. But the laws are clear: servants and Soldati are not permitted to mate. It doesn’t matter that Toka lost his heart to the dashing cad long ago. Rayner never imagined he would fall in love with a servant.

A Solid 4.5 Stars for both the narration and the story.

My, did this pack a hell of a punch in such a short number of pages. It made me laugh, rage, swoon and ultimately made me whoop in joy when all the evil bastards got what they deserved (looking at you evil bastard of the bear-shifter variety).

Once again, like the previous book, I wish this was longer and wished it had an epilogue. It also didn’t explain how there was suddenly the appearance of a certain someone when it supposedly takes days to get where she appeared. Although, it was a negligible plot hole so I didn’t really mind.

Aside from that, I really enjoyed this book and it was great bumping into my baby Riley and Khalon(who I wanted to push over the rooftop of a tall building at a point in the book but luckily, he redeemed himself).

With the unexplained “vibe” between Ezra and The General, I do hope there is another book planned for this series. I know for fact I will be reading/ listening to it should that come to pass.

The narration, though not flawless, was engaging and very very well done. It secured the rating for this book.

I loved everything about this story and loved how light hearted it came across even through all the icky parts. I felt the world building was adequate for a first book in a series and didn’t really think I needed more to make the reading experience more fulfilling on that front. Riley was a sweetheart and while Khalon started out as an ass, I quickly warmed up to him.

My only issues faced were the length of the book and how it ended. It really could’ve benefited from a long, proper epilogue in my humble opinion and a more thorough resolution to Riley’s predicament than a literal “one and done” scenario.

Other than that, everything was great and it’s off to Toka’s book!

First off, the audio performance was...not good.I wish there was another way to put it, but all I can come up with was not good. The narrator sounded like the male version of Siri. He was all mechanical/monotonous, but kept raising his tone at the end of every sentence for some unknown reason.

When he did the voices of Dex and Sloane it became more bearable but for the other portions, the monotonous, mechanical voice was still present. This was the first audio book I've ever DNF'd (I did so after the 2nd chapter) and though I felt terrible for doing so, I could only endure for so long. It seriously hindered my enjoyment of the story and I had to start all over again when I got the Kindle version of the book(which was great).

I might give the narrator ( Mark Westfield ) another go, but for this, it’s a big No from me.

At 40, Vincent “Vinnie” Fierro is still afraid to admit he might be gay - even to himself. Vinnie attempts some self-exploration in Chicago’s Boystown bars, far from anyone who knows him. Naturally, he runs smack into someone from the neighborhood. Trey Giles has little time for fun, let alone dating someone who swears he’s straight. Yet after one night of dancing cheek-to-cheek, Trey agrees to let Vinnie court him and see if he truly belongs on this side of the fence. It seems like a solid plan, but nothing is simple when family is involved.
