Rachel Maddow's Drift argues that we've drifted away from America's original ideals and become a nation weirdly at peace with perpetual war, with all the financial and human costs that entails. Sensible yet provocative, dead serious yet seriously funny, Drift will reinvigorate a "loud and jangly" political debate about how, when, and where to apply America's strength and power - and who gets to make those decisions.

If you could sum up Drift in three words, what would they be?

Interesting, engaging...trustworthy

Who was your favorite character and why?

N/A - its like a history lesson, only interesting and brought to life

Have you listened to any of Rachel Maddow’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No, she needs more. She is excellent as a narrator.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Same title, but this could definitely be turned into a documentary with photos and footage to go along with her detailing of historical events.

Any additional comments?

Keep up the great work Rachel...more books please!!

Narrator has a kind of creaky, nasal, back of the mouth voice that grinds against my nerves.
She sounds like she's taken a big toke off of a bong full of pot and she's trying to talk while she holds the smoke in...not that I would know anything about that sort of thing.
I'm trying to get used to it. She's not mispronouncing anything and she has good dramatic pause - I'll get used to it. It just sounds like she's whispering when she doesn't need to whisper.
So far, the story is excellent and interesting.

For his whole life, the boy has lived underground, in a basement with his parents, grandmother, sister, and brother. Before he was born, his family was disfigured by a fire. His sister wears a white mask to cover her burns. He spends his hours with his cactus, reading his book on insects, or touching the one ray of sunlight that filters in through a crack in the ceiling. Ever since his sister had a baby, everyone's been acting very strangely.

Thank God for the audible return shitty books clause...jeez. I guess this is better suited to being a play or a movie, cause I suffered through chapter after chapter after CHAPTER waiting for this damn story to take off...so, in a movie - or better yet, an after school special - all these beginning chapters could be played out in about 3 minutes...okay, maybe six minutes. I really tried to like it. I thought the cover looked great, but this book is borin' as hell.

I can't give this audiobook a bad review...I listened to it a handful of times but I couldn't tell you what the hell this book is about...but that's not why I love it. I love it because it is my GO TO go to sleep book...it's wonderful at that. I should try to listen to it at times other than before bed, but I'm scared of the results of that unless I plan on a nap. Great book. Not sure what it's about, but I love it.

What you are about to hear is not for the faint of the heart. You will be creating a powerful spiritual entity - an entity that will know you better than you know yourself. It will know all your secrets, your weaknesses, and your strengths. It will also be your servant. It will do whatever you tell it to do, both for good or ill. Although it is you who will create it, its energy and life force traces back deep into primordial time. People throughout history, and even to this day, call upon these entities for help.

Your Soul's Plan (which was originally published under the title Courageous Souls: Do We Plan Our Life Challenges Before Birth?) explores the premise that we are all eternal souls who plan our lives, including our greatest challenges, before we are born for the purpose of spiritual growth. Through compelling profiles of people who knowingly planned the experiences mentioned above, Your Soul's Plan shows that suffering is not purposeless, but rather imbued with deep meaning.

Learn how to use the gift of pain with Pema Chödrön, a Buddhist nun in the Tibetan Vajrayana tradition. She teaches that it is in suffering where you will find the seeds of your awakening and that vulnerability is actually your greatest spiritual resource. You'll learn how to create your own spiritual retreat, the key teachings necessary for cultivating your own "soft spot" - the gateway to your own noble heart, the promise of the Four Limitless Ones, and the teachings on the Six Paramitas: the Buddha's own map of the journey to enlightenment. This program was recorded within the peaceful shrine room of Gampo Abbey, Chödrön's home on the cliffs of Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia.
