Maud Drennan is a dedicated caretaker, but her sunny, capable disposition and snappy quips mask a deep sadness. A tragic childhood event left her in the company of a cast of patron saints who pop in and out of her life like unwelcome tourists. She tries to find solace in her hard work in London...but then she meets the inimitable Mr. Flood. A menace by all accounts, Cathal Flood is a widower living alone in a Gothic Dorset mansion crawling with collector's items and feral cats.

Set in the 1970s in a run-down, rainy, industrial town, Jo Nesbo's Macbeth centers around a police force struggling to shed an incessant drug problem. Duncan, chief of police, is idealistic and visionary, a dream to the townspeople but a nightmare for criminals. The drug trade is ruled by two drug lords, one of whom - a master of manipulation named Hecate - has connections with the highest in power and plans to use them to get his way.

Nesbo improved this old classic. Shakespeare would be impressed. So will you. Although Nesbo places his version in the early 70's it accurately describes our current political situation.

Would you try another book from Kristin Hannah and/or Julia Whelan?

Not after listening to this book.

What was most disappointing about Kristin Hannah’s story?

I blindly ordered this book after enjoying The Nightingale. I cannot believe the same person wrote this boilerplate "don't go into that room!" book.

What character would you cut from The Great Alone?

All.

Justin and Libby Denbe have the kind of life you’d find in the pages of a glossy magazine: A beautiful 14-year-old daughter. A gorgeous brownstone on a tree-lined street in Boston’s Back Bay neighborhood. A great marriage, admired by all. A perfect life. When investigator Tessa Leone arrives at the crime scene in the foyer of the Denbes’ home, she finds scuff marks on the floor and a million tiny pieces of bright green Taser confetti. The family appears to have been abducted.

If you could sum up Touch & Go in three words, what would they be?

over too soon

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

yes

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I had to make myself turn off my iPod so I could get other things done, and also to draw out the enjoyment.
