I'm trying to download it for the second time because I cannot see the chapter list, and if I pause it, it replays from 2 or 3 chapters earlier than where I left the book. About the series, I know that Harry Potter fans will either love it or hate it. There are some areas where the two worlds seem to overlap, but there are some important differences. I'm trying to lower my expectations of the Merlin series, and to appreciate it in its own right. I think seen like that, it's an entertaining story full of action and surprises. I like the main female character, although in the second book you get to see the story from other perspectives and that makes the story more interesting as well.

Fifteen-year-old Simone is not your typical California teenage girl - although she’d like to be. She believes her secret abilities make her weird. While it might be cool to move things with your mind, see ghosts, and sometimes read other people’s thoughts, it isn’t when those things get you into trouble because you can’t control them. Starting sophomore year at a new high school where she knows no one, Simone tries to keep to herself. Those efforts go awry when a couple of ghosts befriend her. And, a popular boy in her English class, Dalton, asks to study together. Dalton’s ex-girlfriend isn’t happy about that.

This is a good start for what I hope is a new series. It has to be because there are stories to be told from all the various ghosts and people involved with the main character, I think. I look forward to the next book.

My name is Alexis, though everyone calls me Lexie. I'm a Necromancer. I see the dead, talk to them, and help them move on. Well, I used to. Now, with the Veil closed, I'm the only way for a soul to cross over. It's wearing me out, and according to my doctor, it's going to kill me. I don't know how to tell the guys. I'm working on it, but there is so much going on right now; Isaac's acting strange, Ethan's worried that his brother isn't eating or sleeping, Asher's dad is back, and Tara is still snooping around my bedroom. My symptoms are getting worse, and we're running out of time.

Ok, I was afraid this series had become an inverted harem and that it would center around the romantic situations between the female character and all the male characters. Instead I was pleasantly surprised. The story became truly scary and engaging. The motivations of some of the new characters are intriguing and they made me want to read the next book. I hope the author keeps exploring the new aspects of the series rather than to focus on the romantic ties all male characters seem to have with the protagonist. Those feel very shallow, based mainly on teenage hormones more than anything else. If the characters were to mature a little, only a few of these romantic ties would survive.

At the end of this novel, I felt the series had come to full circle and it had answered most of the questions that were left open in the previous novels. Then, again, it also felt like it was only the beginning and a spin-off series could be done, this time with the stories of the people who survived in the land.

Though the movie was a fun, leave-your-brain-at-the-door type of flick, I was intrigued by the concept and I jumped into the opportunity to listen to this first book when I found it in audible. It includes a prequel, which I found a little confusing for some reason. Overall, a really intense, action-packed novel. The characters are better defined than the movie (no surprises there) with clearer motivations for their behaviour and reasons for their like/dislike of other characters. Not for weak stomachs, since it's much bloodier and gruesome than the movie by far! I want to read the rest of the series now.

It spread fast - no time to understand it - let alone learn how to fight it. Once it reached you, it was too late. All you could do is run. Rumored safe zones and potential for a cure drifted across the populace, forcing tough decisions to be made. They say only the strong survive. Well, they forgot about the smart, the inventive, and the lucky.

I was a little disappointed with the second book of this series. I liked the first one so much I went on to reading the next one right away, but by contrast this novel is a bit off. I find some of the situations or the motivations of the characters a little forced to fit some drama into the story. I liked some aspects of the story, such as the development of friendships among the female characters, but I found that to be more interesting than the romance between the two main characters.

I enjoyed the bits of realism of college life that "interfered" with having a love life in the way it's portrayed in other romance novels. Usually when the setting is college, you never hear a reference of the main characters picking up a book and studying for tests, while being star students or having scholarships. I really liked the start of this series.

It was a typical evening at a mall outside Portland, Maine. Three teenage friends waited for the movie to start. A boy flirted with the girl selling sunglasses. Then the shooters arrived. The chaos and carnage lasted only eight minutes before the killers were taken down. But one person wasn't satisfied with the shockingly high death toll at the DownEast Mall. And as the survivors slowly heal, find shelter, and rebuild, they will discover that another conspirator is lying in wait - and this time, there might be nowhere safe to hide.
