Something sinister is going on in Baronville. The rust belt town has seen four bizarre murders in the space of two weeks. Cryptic clues left at the scenes - obscure Bible verses, odd symbols - have the police stumped. Amos Decker and his FBI colleague Alex Jamison are in Baronville visiting Alex's sister and her family. It's a bleak place: a former mill and mining town with a crumbling economy and rampant opioid addiction. Decker has been there only a few hours when he stumbles on a horrific double murder scene.

I really enjoy the Amos Decker stories. I love his no nonsense approach and lack of small talk that gets right to the point. This story was well developed and not overly predictable which is hard to find in most crime novels.
However the voice acting detracted from the story at parts. The female actor used always calls up the same "southern/country" accent regardless of the town. This was set in Pennsylvania, but the town cop sounded someone with like a fake Georgia accent and a jaw injury. Also, the voice acting for child made it seem like the kid was mentally handicapped, and that was not the case. Definitely worth a credit

Hired to search for a collection of paintings worth half a billion dollars, Juan Cabrillo and the crew of the Oregon soon find themselves in much deeper waters. Not only is the vicious leader of a Filipino insurgency using them to finance his attacks, but he has stumbled upon one of the most lethal secrets of World War II - a Japanese-developed drug, designed, but never used, to turn soldiers into superwarriors.

It was a great story with good action and drama. My only issue was this book created some very similar suspense points as the previous Oregon Files novel, and solved them in the exact same way. Brick did a fair job of creating a Filipino accent, but it detracted form the suspenseful feeling hearing his struggle with it.
Overall, a great book and any Oregon files fan will enjoy it.

Lucas Davenport had crossed paths with her before. A rich psychopath, Taryn Grant had run successfully for the US Senate, where Lucas had predicted she'd fit right in. He was also convinced that she'd been responsible for three murders, though he'd never been able to prove it. Once a psychopath had gotten that kind of rush, though, he or she often needed another fix, so he figured he might be seeing her again. He was right.

One of my favorite Davenport novels in the last few. could've used more of that f**king Flowers, but I understand he wants to save that material for his next novel.
Would be interested to see Lucas go after either a Mafia fugitive or a Cartel linked American.
