This story could have been so much better if the h/h were having an adventure together without constantly saying how they did not want to marry. I got tired of hearing it. Ok, say it a few times, but not continually. That got old. It would have been so much better if they let themselves enjoy the moments without the handwringing.
I think Darcy Burke is a promising author. I hope she will let her characters enjoy their adventures together without inserting so much repetitive angst.

But as the county coroner, Frankie has enough on her plate without worrying about the increasingly mean pranks being played at her family's business. And the arrival of Sheriff Eric Linden, both devastatingly attractive and painfully taciturn, is enough to push her over the edge.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

No. I didn't care for the heroine's attitude. She is thrown back in time then talks about the world in her time as if everyone should know what she's talking about. She has a southern accent but is from Boston. Very inconsistent.

Would you ever listen to anything by Angeline Fortin again?

only if free

What about Kirsten Potter’s performance did you like?

She can perform different character's voices, male and female, and different accents well. She's a very good narrator.

When kidnapped English heiress Zoe Lexham daringly escapes from captivity, her problems have only begun. After 12 years in a harem, she knows far more about erotic practices than how to conduct a proper conversation in civilized parlors. Enter Lucien de Grey, the Duke of Marchmont. Lucien is no knight in shining armor; he's cynical, easily bored, dangerous to women, and utterly indifferent to popular opinion. But good looks, combined with money and title, make him welcome everywhere.

The heroine, Zoe Octavia Lexham, was kidnapped at the age of 12 while on a trip with her parents and brought to live in a harem in Egypt. The hero, the Duke of Marchmont, was very close to her and her family as her father helped raise he and his brother after their parents died. After 12 years in which Zoe's father never gave up looking for her, she escaped and went to what would be the equivalent to the now English embassy and was quietly returned home to her family. She was dubbed "the harem girl " by the press and exploited as a scandal. In steps the Duke of Marchmont to calm things and help Zoe to regain her respectability and help her enter into society. Their friendship is renewed and sparks fly in this witty and most entertaining novel. The characters had great depth and their growth in themselves and their relationship was masterfully done.
Another hit by Loretta Chase. She is particularly good at writing romance novels where the h/h have good communication with depth and wit, fun and adventure that keeps you turning the pages, or listening in audio format. Keep them coming Ms. Chase, your style of writing is very refreshing.

This book reads like a spoof of Regency romance novels.
The H/H and the sub characters are ridiculous and the sexual content is almost constant. It does make you laugh at the absurdity of it all. If you're looking for a no brainer with plenty of ditzy characters, with a touch of mystery, this is for you.

I don't like to write bad reviews but I know I would like to be informed if I were thinking about purchasing this book and looking at the reviews. This is the third book in this series. I liked the h/h characters growth but unfortunately this story was too drawn out. Also there was too much miscommunication. The sub character of Gram was absurd and overdone. It seems like there is a trend with some authors since the Stephanie Plum series, to make the grandmother figures be obnoxious. It gets to the point of being sleazy and overdone. In short, I would not recommend this book.

Andrew Carrington, Earl of Bellingham, believes in being a gentleman, whether it's fishing a soggy stranger out of the Thames or assisting a fetching lady into his bed. If the stranger becomes a friend and the lady a mistress, all the better. He certainly welcomes the opportunity to help Laura Davenport, a dazzling young widow with a rebellious stepson. Her gratitude, he hopes, will take an amorous form. But from the moment he sets foot in her drawing room, he gets far more than he bargained for.

This is one you don't want to put down. Definitely an entertaining book. The narrator did a great job. Well worth your credit if you enjoy a historical regency romp.
