For decades we have been taught that fat is bad for us, carbohydrates better, and that the key to a healthy weight is eating less and exercising more. Yet despite this advice, we have seen unprecedented epidemics of obesity and diabetes. Taubes argues that the problem lies in refined carbohydrates, like white flour, easily digested starches, and sugars, and that the key to good health is the kind of calories we take in, not the number.

For decades we've been told that positive thinking is the key to a happy, rich life. "F*ck positivity," Mark Manson says. "Let's be honest, shit is f*cked, and we have to live with it." In his wildly popular Internet blog, Manson doesn't sugarcoat or equivocate. He tells it like it is - a dose of raw, refreshing, honest truth that is sorely lacking today. The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck is his antidote to the coddling, let's-all-feel-good mind-set that has infected modern society and spoiled a generation, rewarding them with gold medals just for showing up.

At 61 and a big Audible fan with over 30 titles, I wish I had spent more time on MManson-type themes 20-30 years ago. Business and self improvement related tomes back then were mostly motivation and productivity based. Covey and Robbins were a few faves. But they lacked the entitlement, mortality, and values perspectives that Manson has presented here. Or, maybe i wasn’t listening close enough because I just didn’t give a f*ck?

I'm a 60 year old man and have read a few titles by Bryans- wanted to see the other side of his perspective. Looks like he's consistent for both men and women. We do want the same things, in slightly different order, and varying quantities. Emotional intimacy was a good case in point. Agree with Bryans that being malicious and petty and in short, disrespectful- will lose a good man/woman every time regardless of looks, sex, and money.
If you stay with a disrespectful man/woman because of looks, sex, and/or money then it is your OWN self-esteem problem. BMac60 Ohio, 12/25/16.

You can learn everything you can about how to make women want you and still fail to master the inner game of being a man who naturally attracts women. Some guys even study all kinds of seduction secrets on attracting women, yet they only end up in terrible relationships with low-quality women. Most guys simply don't understand how women think. If you asked the average guy what women want, he may say things like confidence, money, or ridiculous good looks, but all of these things are just the tip of the iceberg.

Most of these strategies have been around a long time, such as self-confidence, leadership, principles, chivalry, resilience, and being a man with a plan. My biggest takeaway is the strong reminder NOT to be a pushover and employ the power of "No!" Be great and not just nice. Avoid a fight but embrace conflict.
I was always a bit of a Disneyland Dad after the divorce but- Bryan's principles outline key points that work across dating, mating, work, and life mission.
