With Christmas only three days away, Carol Claus agrees to her father's request that she leave the North Pole on a mission to help save Christmas. Joining single father Ben Hanson and his children for the holidays seems an easy enough task until Santa informs her that Ben is the man behind the disturbing new book Beyond Bah Humbug: Why Lying to Your Children about Santa Claus Is a Bad Idea. Posing as Miss Kane, the children's new nanny, Carol pulls out all the stops to show Ben how fun Christmas can be, all the while struggling to understand how one man could hate the holidays so much.

School psychologist Skye Denison-Boyd had hoped that her maternity leave would be at least a little relaxing, but when she and her husband, Wally, meet with the priest to discuss their newborn twins' christening, an explosion at the nearby bowling alley rocks the rectory. And although the business was closed at the time of the blast, there's a body inside. As police chief, Wally is inevitably drawn into the investigation, which seems to indicate that foul play is afoot again in Scumble River, and Skye can't help but do a bit of her own sleuthing.

DCI Warren Jones has a bad feeling when the body of a young woman turns up in Beaconsfield Woods. She’s been raped and strangled but the murderer has been careful to leave no DNA evidence. There are, of course, suspects - boyfriend, father - to check out but, worryingly, it looks more and more like a stranger murder. Warren’s worst fears are confirmed when another young woman is killed in the same way. The MO fits that of Richard Cameron who served 12 years for rape. But Cameron never killed his victims and he has a cast-iron alibi. Then personal tragedy intervenes and Warren is off the case.

Recently engaged and deeply ensconced in her third year of surgical residency in Chicago, Emily Hartford gets a shock when she is called home to Freeport, Michigan, the small town she fled a decade ago after the death of her mother. Her estranged father, the local medical examiner, has had a massive heart attack. At the hospital, she finds her father in near total denial of the seriousness of his condition. He insists that the best thing Emily can do to help him is to take on the autopsy of a senator's teen daughter whose sudden, unexplained death has just rocked the sleepy town.

Emily was. a woman who ran away from her life and home after her mother died in an accident. She ended up as a doctor in Chicago engaged to a. doctor who looks great on paper.
Her birthday starts with a successful surgery and a proposal from her perfect boyfriend.
That is soon eclipsed by a phone call from home. Her father the local medical examiner had a heart attack and a state senator's daughter is killed.
This is. backdrop for a clever mystery.
I am a fan. This one is worth a credit.

I think John Paterson. last few books make him seem as if he has lost his focus on his craft and worse, his passion for writing.
Juror # 3 is not perfect. but it is pretty good for the first one in a new series.
Ruby is likable and relatable. She has lots of room to grow and develop into a strong lead. I also liked the setting in a small town.
I am not going to give away the story.I will say that it is worth being given a chance.
I will be on the lookout for the next book in this series.

Amos Decker's life changed forever - twice. The first time was on the gridiron. A big, towering athlete, he was the only person from his hometown of Burlington ever to go pro. But his career ended before it had a chance to begin. On his very first play, a violent helmet-to-helmet collision knocked him off the field for good and left him with an improbable side effect - he can never forget anything.
