I never wanted to hurt Violet Knight, but there were reasons I had to leave all those years ago - not that she'd believe me if I told her what they were. I not only left her, I also left my foster brothers. Honestly, I didn't want to come back to Denver to help run my father's failing brewery. But when it comes to my brothers, I know I'll find a way to make it work. Perhaps I'll even earn Violet's forgiveness and face the connection we both thought long forgotten in the process. Because I wanted her then, but now I know I need her. I just hope she needs me.

The story took a bit for me to get into because of how the book started. This wasn't because of anything bad just my personal life. I did enjoy the story. Loved the narrator, Joe Arden and Maxine Mitchell.

It's not every day that a beautiful, naked woman falls out of the sky and lands face-first on grizzly shifter Berg Dunn's hotel balcony. Definitely, they don't usually hop up and demand his best gun. Berg gives the lady a grizzly-sized t-shirt and his cell phone, too, just on style points. And then she's gone, taking his XXXL heart with her. By the time he figures out she's a honey-badger shifter, it's too late. Honey badgers are survivors. Brutal, vicious, ill-tempered survivors.

I struggled with finishing this one. I've listen to all of Laurenston's books and love them. when it was the new characters and we haven't heard their voice yet the narrator was fine but as soon as you get to the old set of characters it turned me off. The narrator did her very best but when you don't really give DeeAnn a southern accent but this weird voice I can't ignore it. Other then the narrator the book was good. I love the honey badgers. Laurenston had a very funny story like her other books and it was nice to see where the characters are now.

Lyric has graduated from high school and is at loose ends. She doesn't know what she wants to do with her life. She is struggling with nightmares and seeing things that aren't there. After she is injured on a hike she discovers there is magic.
She discovers that 500 years ago in the Maison Realm there was warring kingdoms that lead to a split between the light and the dark. Both groups send people into the human realm looking for the prophesied Spirit Priestess who will reunite the Maison Realm.

The book was an interesting take on magic and different realms. The character development was spot on, along with the world building. Will definitely look for the second book in the series.

I listened to this book. Bailey Carr was the narrator and she did an amazing job with the voices for the different characters. She made the book.

Is there anything you would change about this book?

I would use a different woman narrator or just the guy. It wasn't that she was bad per say just with some of her voices it bothered me.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Rose Dioro made many of the voices very shrill and made me cringe.

Any additional comments?

I really liked the story and I loved Jacob Morgan's take on Randy Balls. What I didn't like was Rose Dioro. She was okay when she was talking for Lily but when she would do any of the other characters it was like nails on a chalk board for me. I cringed every time she did Violet where I wanted to fast-forward through the scene.
