Something quite odd is happening in Second World - the planet's foremost MMORPG. Something that's causing alliances to be broken, and friendships, forgotten. A worthless low-level mine becomes the stage of vicious battles, its burned ruins suddenly contested by the game's toughest clans. Every border is controlled, and every road in the province blocked off. The weak players and NPCs alike are subjected to non-stop violent raids courtesy of Eastern invaders. And the strong are scouring the virtual world for the culprit - the weirdest noob the game has ever seen.

I'm sure the book was better read, where the reader can skip repetitive sections. as an audiobook though...it gets bad. its not the stat screens though, it's the notifications. I swear 15% of the overall time is a repeated notification blurb or some other repeated info in a not usefully new way. another 15% is straight up explaining basic litrpg lingo, not just game speak.

That said, it was a pleasant rpg journey with some unexpected and unusual turns. definitely interested in how our hero continues the journey! hopefully the sequels cut down on the worst parts that were mostly in the beginning.

there were some areas that were absolutely frustrating in that oren (or the author) seemed to forget what tools were available to solve problems. There's also the part where the company stops helping and in a way becomes a hindrance; I'm not a lawyer but I'm pretty sure some of their actions could be seen as voiding their contract and leaving them open for crushing lawsuits.

all in all though, the book was a great continuation of oren's plight and wrapped up with some rather spectacular battles. the extra voice actors was also a really nice touch, albeit a little jarring at first.

Lazarus Cain is a member of the Grim Shadows, one of the Thieves Guilds in the city of Eberia. Unfortunately, Lazarus is having a bad day. Waking up in a torture chamber, suffering from amnesia, he'd be pretty much screwed if not for the mysterious, magical sigil burned into his chest. Sometimes a really bad day should be shared with others, especially professional torturers.

was looking forward to a continuation, but was disappointed with a completely separate side story with a whole new cast. it all links back to familiar territory and on its own was alright. biggest problem was it started with the new cast as if we already new a lot about them and how they leveled before (there's much less about growth in this one)

From the very first hour Cayden had set foot inside the massive, real-life game that was the Tower of Babel, nothing had gone according to plan. A unique skill, a handful of new friends, and the wrath of an ultra-wealthy, patricidal lunatic were just some of the complications to his best laid plans.
So why was he even surprised when a special event trapped him, his companions, and dozens of other players inside the tower, squaring them off against a murderous army of stone-faced warriors?

like many other reviewers have already said, this book goes on a tangent to story seemingly unrelated to the major plot of the first, and doesn't even finish that (only about half actually). furthermore it steps away from the action adventure litRPG narrative to a strategy oriented litRTS. this was a surprise at first, but I found it refreshing as a gamer to see another genre explored. since the next book probably finishes this side story or gives it a connection to the main plot, and there are some key character developments, I would say this isn't skipable. it's not as good as the first, but not behind by much; still worth the journey.

Great continuation of the story! Things get a little more meta as the focus partially shifts from Richter's personal adventures to the growth of the village and villagers. Really though, was disappointed that the catacombs WEREN'T explored despite the title of the book...Still plenty of great scenes in dark places ;)

For Riley and his friends, Sigil Online has never been more real. With the latest expansion, pain has been enabled and will now affect all players in-game. Aptly named "Hellions", the expansion introduces monsters, but not the kind that paragons have been fighting for the past several years. This time, players can be the monsters they once sought to destroy. But in a game where playing means having the money to survive in the real world, what will Riley do when death in the game doesn't just mean an end to his character, but an end to his life?

absolutely loved the first book with all the unique powers and potential. this one skips all that to go in another direction with monster types instead. furthermore elements of the sigil online game design completely destroy immersion as any game with such bad design would not exist let alone be poplar, and it just keeps getting worse throughout the book.

still a good read, but I'll be weary of the next release...

If the spotlight of the first book is Henry's growth into his powers, and the second book is Jason's power expansion, then this one is definitely Aohd's spotlight.

It's still interesting to see the growth of all of the characters and major plot points are finally unveiled. There is still so much to be done there has to at least be several books left, which is a bit of a tease. Nonetheless, this was a great read, a valuable addition to the series, and another classic Blaise cliffhanger. Cannot wait for the next entry!
