What happens to a seven-year-old boy who sees his parents die in a murder suicide? There is trauma, of course, and an impact to his emotional health from which you may never recover. Noah Foster was that boy, and his struggle with post-traumatic stress has left him without emotions, without a conscience and without whatever it is that once made him human.

The story is more than little far fetched....but a good page turning thriller! Narrator Scott Brick is the BEST; as usual, affording the story to sound grounded even though the story line prose was fantastical. One would classify this book as a thriller and an easy read. Personally, I haven't decided whether to download the next book in the series. I usually prefer to separate present day drama from all out Science Fiction....I find that books that don't take on a Fantasy aspect that I don't enjoy.

In keeping with his trademark style, Dan Brown, author of The Da Vinci Code and Inferno, interweaves codes, science, religion, history, art, and architecture in this new novel. Origin thrusts Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon into the dangerous intersection of humankind's two most enduring questions - and the earthshaking discovery that will answer them.

Ponderously slow going over the first several chapters. I almost returned the book many times....however, I finished the book deciding that the prose style was quintessential Dan Brown. The book did wrap to a final and logical conclusion....although it did seem to take the long way round. I have often heard it said that "it's the journey not the destination that's important!". Well if that's your story type; then, you will be amply satisfied.

In the 25th century, humans have conquered space. The advent of faster-than-light travel has opened up hundreds of habitable planets for colonization, and humans have exploited the virtually limitless space and resources for hundreds of years with impunity. So complacent have they become with the overabundance that armed conflict is a thing of the past, and their machines of war are obsolete and decrepit. What would happen if they were suddenly threatened by a terrifying new enemy?

A bit of a slow start when compared to the "Omega Force" series by the same Author. However, sticking with the story (albeit 40% in) the action and adventure begins. Although not a page turner like Omega....the story is more complex and probably needs more development. Interesting story-line premises.

There is a fine line between right and wrong, good and evil. For years Jason Burke has straddled that line as best he can, always convinced that despite the violence carried out by him and his team they were firmly on the right side of that line. But as he reflects on his time with Omega Force, he begins to have his doubts. When strange happenings from the mysterious Avarian Empire cross the expanse and Jason and Omega Force are pulled into the conflict, they must pick sides between two superpowers

In my review of the first book of the series, I alluded to being reminded of the TV series "Firefly" and the zesty adventures that they would have. In addition, for folks who been around awhile, the TV series "Have Gun Will Travel" is also in the back of my mind. Again..I hope the Author doesn't disparage these comparisons as I only wish to illustrate my love for the Lighthearted adventures and camaraderie that these stories evoke. Put simply the "Good Guys win and the Bad Guys lose heavily". All-in-all good adventures and a great page turner..

After the daring rescue of a political dissident, Omega Force is contracted to investigate a rash of violent attacks on civilian shipping lanes within a group of star systems known as the Concordian Cluster. It seems a simple enough job with a huge payday at the end, and it's exactly what the ragtag group of mercenaries needs in order to keep their ship flying and to stay one step ahead of those hunting them.

What did you like best about this story?

Not wishing to constantly compare, this story and perhaps the series reminds one of the "Firefly" TV series....fiercely independent contractors wishing to help others while earning enough money and adventure to keep flying. All-in-all a good story line that stays dramatic and light hearted.....a good listen!
