Pete Banning was Clanton's favorite son, a returning war hero, the patriarch of a prominent family, a farmer, a father, a neighbor, and a faithful member of the Methodist church. Then one cool October morning in 1946, he rose early, drove into town, walked into the church, and calmly shot and killed the Reverend Dexter Bell.

I’ve read many Grisham books. This was endless. I almost stopped reading it but I dislike doing that as a rule. I don’t understand why the gruesome details of the electrocution was needed. I don’t understand the whole section on the war. Then the ending with a twist that was disappointing. I would not recommend this book.

New York Times best-selling author William Kent Krueger delivers yet another "punch-to-the-gut blend of detective story and investigative fiction" (Booklist) as Cork O'Connor and his son Stephen work together to uncover the truth behind the tragic plane crash of a senator on Desolation Mountain and the mysterious disappearances of several first responders. This is a heart-pounding and devastating mystery the scope and consequences of which go far beyond what father or son could ever have imagined....

If you could sum up Cake in three words, what would they be?

Funny, appealing, and simple

What other book might you compare Cake to and why?

romance

What about Andi Arndt and Joe Arden ’s performance did you like?

I like that they read the two roles. It actually added character. Hmmm....

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Not that I can remember

Any additional comments?

I felt like this book had all positive reviews which is why I bought it. I am not here to give a negative one. I laughed at times and I enjoyed it. Yet, essentially this is just another romance novel. It is a step above many but there isn't much to the story. I don't want to disappoint - just a reality check.

Texas mogul Beau Reese is furious. All six feet three obscenely wealthy, good-looking inches of him. His 60-year-old father, Stewart, a former state senator no less, has impregnated a teenager. Barely able to contain his anger, Beau is in for another surprise. It appears that Stewart has moved an entirely different woman into the house. Beau assumes that stunning Cassidy Jones is his father's mistress. At least she's of age. But those concerns take a sudden backseat when he finds Stewart in a pool of blood on the floor of his study - and Cassidy walks in to find Beau with his hand on the murder weapon.

That sounds insulting enough. This book was really ridiculous. I don’t know why I finished reading it. The romance was boring. The mystery was lost in the romance then pieced together in the end. Honestly, I’m sorry I wasted a credit.
