Toby is a happy-go-lucky charmer who's dodged a scrape at work and is celebrating with friends when the night takes a turn that will change his life - he surprises two burglars who beat him and leave him for dead. Struggling to recover from his injuries, beginning to understand that he might never be the same man again, he takes refuge at his family's ancestral home to care for his dying uncle Hugo. I've listened to all Tana French books and generally I liked the lot. This one seems to drag for the opening "get to know the characters". The lead character was largely unlikeable but it took a long time getting there and I almost gave up. Overall, its not a bad story, a little unbelievable in spots but it pulls nicely together at the end.

After losing his leg to a land mine in Afghanistan, Cormoran Strike is barely scraping by as a private investigator. Then John Bristow walks through his door with an amazing story: his sister, the legendary supermodel Lula Landry, famously fell to her death a few months earlier. The police ruled it a suicide, but John refuses to believe that. The case plunges Strike into the world of multimillionaire beauties, rock-star boyfriends, and desperate designers, and it introduces him to every variety of pleasure, enticement, seduction, and delusion known to man.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Pretty good, story line moves alone quite nicely, plot is reasonably constructed and it is not one of those that would be impossible to guess with an ending based upon information not provided.

The narrator is good, goo voice changes and easy to follow - but I am a brit so the ascents made sense to me.

I would not say it is a block buster but above average

The worst that can possibly happen... has. A beautiful child is dead - defiled and murdered in a lonely graveyard on a fog-shrouded evening. It is the sort of horrific crime Chief Inspector Alan Banks fled the city to escape. But the slaying of a bright and lovely teenager from a wealthy, respected family is not the end of a nightmare. Lies, dark secrets, unholy accusations, and hints of sexual depravity swirl around this abomination like leaves in an autumn wind, leading to a shattering travesty of justice that will brutally divide a devastated community with suspicion and hatred.

Not one the best Insp Banks books

I have read a number of Insp Banks books but this one really is not one of the best. Not sure if this was an earlier one but did not have the same pace as other ones.
