This began very quickly with the crime and fell straight into the story, so it was a rollicking ride within a few minutes.
I have to say that the responsible criminal was revealed to me before the ending but this didn’t ruin the audio. The fun was in finding the victim and criminals, the search and hunt was the best part as well as getting to know the characters of the story.
A enjoyable audiobook I will no doubt listen to again.

Georgette is a favourite of mine. I have read her historical novels including Simon the Coldheart, which is one of her best, and read many of her mystery novels. I first read a regency when I was in my teens and have since read them all, she writes with wit and fun.
This novel on audiobook is well narrated. In fact I really like the narrator, he also narrated These Old Shades which was a real lark, so that was why I purchased this.
I loved Nicky and Bouncer and enjoyed the infamous Francis Cheviot who is truly creepy yet appears such a dolt. Edward is the hero and Elinor the damsel and heroine, they are both quick of tongue and witty, they make a good couple.
Due to the mystery and it’s unfolding, the romance is not obvious and I liked that, many romance novels, as such are so obvious, they become boring. Those who dislike this book haven’t understood the wonderful subtlety of Georgette. She has written this way in other books and her use of subtle writing is a joy to experience.
I highly recommend Georgette Heyer to any who haven’t found her before, but I suggest you partake of pieces of all three genres of her writing. Locate a copy of her novel The Conqueror, try The Unfinished. Clue and read These Old Shades and The Grand Sophy-give yourself a good grounding in Heyer as there is much to enjoy.

A new life in New Orleans is all Jason Thorpe had hoped: His quaint little store attracts a devoted staff, and his warm, loving heart grants him a loyal circle of friends. He's perfectly content, having left behind the chill of a confusing and danger-filled night in Washington, until he discovers something unbelievable lurking in the steamy darkness of the shadowy streets of the Vieux Carré, something that turns out to be terrifying and utterly mesmerizing.

Book two in the series Trek Mi Q’an, No Mercy tells us the story of King Rem Q’an Tal and the capture of his Sacred Mate. Giselle McKenzie trembled inexplicably as the sound of a low growl reverberated throughout the threads of her consciousness. She knew it couldn’t have emitted from her date, the man sitting across from her in the quaint restaurant. Yet every time he placed his hand over hers, she heard that eerie, primitive growl.

The one complaint I have is with the audio recording, there were a couple of repeated spoken words, this is poor editing and should have been picked up by the producers. These distracted the listening and were annoying.

I recommend this to any reader, I'm a great believer that everyone needs to read and judge for themselves, no doubt some will like and some will not.
