Violet, born and raised in the Marsh, has been trained as a surrogate for the royalty - because in the Jewel the only thing more important than opulence is offspring. Purchased at the surrogacy auction by the Duchess of the Lake and greeted with a slap to the face, Violet (now known only as #197) quickly learns of the brutal truths that lie beneath the Jewel's glittering facade.

Would you listen to The Jewel again? Why?

Yes, I would listen again. Bought the other 2 books before I finished this book. This book is suppose to be a young adult but I am 61 years old and loved it! The story keeps building and never drags. Has enough fantasy to keep you intrigued, a plot that has numerous twist and turns, and a storyteller that can pull it all together.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Jewel?

There are so many "moments" that I can't decide which is the most memorable.

Any additional comments?

This is an excellent book for anyone to read. It has such a compelling story without all the blood, guts and sex. I definitely recommend.

There was the time before Tessa met Hardin, and then there’s everything After... Life will never be the same. #Hessa... Tessa is a good girl with a sweet, reliable boyfriend back home. She’s got direction, ambition, and a mother who’s intent on keeping her that way. But she’s barely moved into her freshman dorm when she runs into Hardin. With his tousled brown hair, cocky British accent, tattoos, and lip ring, Hardin is cute and different from what she’s used to.

Where does After rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I am impressed with this book. I wasn't expecting the ending of this book and it took me by surprise.

What was one of the most memorable moments of After?

The ending of the book. I can't wait to start the next one in the series.

Have you listened to any of Elizabeth Louise’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Narration was very good. Made the characters come alive and gave each one their own personalities the way a good narrator should

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

If you liked the Gray's series, you'll love this series. Not the same story but same type of climatic ending that leaves you hanging in the air and wanting more.

It's been almost a year since 18-year-old Ella Rodriguez was in a car accident that left her crippled, scarred, and without a mother. After a very difficult recovery, she's been uprooted across the country and forced into the custody of a father that abandoned her when she was a young child. If Ella wants to escape her father's home, and her awful new stepfamily, she must convince her doctors that she's capable, both physically and emotionally, of living on her own.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

Quit 1/4 of the way. Not interesting and story is about an angry girl, not an underdog from what I got out of the first part of the book.

What was most disappointing about Kelly Oram’s story?

This is an angry chick book. She's angry at the world for the accident that took her mother and scarred her. I think she is confused that what she perceives as pity is actually compassion. Not interested enough to find out if I was correct, I quit reading the book.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

N/A

What character would you cut from Cinder & Ella?

Ella

Since her divorce two years before, Kelsie Collins has been determined to guard her heart and steer clear of seemingly "perfect" men. It's an easy task considering the kind of men her matchmaking mother and her best friend, Nanci, keep setting her up with. She allows them to set her up, knowing their hearts are in the right place and that there is no risk of her letting any man close enough to hurt her again.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

Something with a better plot and believable story. Could not hold my interest.

What could Lindsey Brookes have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

The main premise of this story is a girl who keeps landing bad dates that her mom sets up for her. To add to the miserable story, her friend is man-crazy and can't think of anything but getting it on with anything in pants. After I got to chapter 5, I quit reading. Why torture myself any longer?

What three words best describe Therese Plummer’s performance?

Ok, for the material she had to work with.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Disappointment. I wasted a credit on a book that just couldn't seem to move me.

Any additional comments?

Narrator made this book good. Had a many-character type of voice that made the story more interesting.
As far as the story, a "secret" that isn't revealed until the last section of the book has me perplexed. You know what is going on, yet the writer is with holding the information until the very end. Better read if the writer would have been more forth coming with the "secret" and worked on dealing with the problem in a different way earlier in the book.
