Cassandra Bowden is no stranger to hungover mornings. She's a binge drinker, her job with the airline making it easy to find adventure, and the occasional blackouts seem to be inevitable. She lives with them and the accompanying self-loathing. When she awakes in a Dubai hotel room, she tries to piece the previous night back together, counting the minutes until she has to catch her crew shuttle to the airport. She quietly slides out of bed, careful not to aggravate her already pounding head, and looks at the man she spent the night with.

Chris Bohjalian did it again! The story of a hedonistic alcoholic flight attendant who finds herself caught up in a real dangerous mess all due to her lifestyle choices.. But she finds redemption in the end. A very honest telling of a modern woman living just for herself only to find she still has a chance at another, better life.

From celebrated New York Times best-selling author and winner of the Pulitzer Prize Rick Bragg comes a poignant and wryly funny collection of essays on life in the South. Keenly observed and written with his insightful and deadpan sense of humor, Bragg explores enduring Southern truths about home, place, spirit, table, and the regions' varied geographies, including his native Alabama, Cajun country, and the Gulf Coast.

What did you love best about My Southern Journey?

That he read it...his own voice and Southern cadence

What did you like best about this story?

The stories about food.

What does Rick Bragg bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He brings a stinging realism to being Southern that is hard to beat. And he is uncompromisingly honest.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes.

Any additional comments?

Rick Bragg IS the voice of the south I think. I have read all his books and he is in a class all his own. His love of his sweet mother is just put out there with no self-consciousness or unmanly shame! He knows where he came from and celebrates it with every story and word. The South IS unique and he shows us why and makes us chuckle at it. He takes you back to your grandma's front porch with an ice cold sweating glass of sweet tea in your hand. His sense of place is incomparable...you feel, smell, and taste the south ....and find it good.Thank you Rick.
