Having "read" this story for the third time now, it still holds it's charm.. The voice acting of the read it very well done. She really brings the characters to life. The story is fast paced and really never slows down. Great stoy to listen to on Audible while driving or thumping around the house.

Some mysteries are shrouded by both time and wars long since past. One of these mysteries revolves around the discovery of the true nature of magic, and the High Mage who ushered in a new era of understanding. Her name was Marin, and her life's work was consumed in the writing of her research. This is Marin's story, and that of her only student, Emonael, as they completed her research. They faced many trials together, and grew to respect one another as few have ever understood, even as others sought to silence the threat she posed to their power.

After readingthe trilogy this book follows up nicely being a prequel stroy yet having to read it after reading the trilogy made it all the better. the Codex story was excellent getting insight into Marin and knowing what she becomes and who she becomes was quite entertaining yet sad as a story came to a close. my only complaint is some of the conversations and all of the books are a little drawn out as there is too much information in the actual conversation. sometimes the actual conversation flow could be a bit better with a sentence being a bit shorter or maybe some of the descriptors being changed up slightly.at times there are just some parts of the conversation that are a little unnecessary as they could be wrapped up with two or three words rather than being spoken out as they are. other than that is a very enjoyable story and I'm planning to read it all again real soon.

I really love this world that was created. At times it was maddening due to the evil that was taking place. Seeing the plans come crashing down around the the protagonist was extremely satisfying. I was a bit hard times to sit through what was being done to the people in the story. It was nice to see all the plot points tied up in the end. having got these books on Audible, I listened to them pretty much one after the other. The performance was well done and I really love listening to the story. At the time of this writing I have 9 more day until the third part of one of the other series comes out. I am looking forward to it immensely.

This is a good follow up to the first book. It spends its time setting up the final book's ultimate battles. It is a bit frustrating at times as the subjugation of some of the characters is a bit cruel at times. I am looking forward to seeing them get back at their captors. At least I hope they get the revenge I feel they deserve.
