Terrible narration - not good in any book she’s narrated, but ridiculously bad in this segment. Her voice is pleasant, however sooooo many mispronunciations throughout her readings. In regency England the ton is not pronounced like a measure of 2000 pounds. Numerous other words sounded as if she were trying unsuccessfully to replicate the speech of the time. This segment would be at least an hour less if she didn’t stop and and reread a portion of every few sentences. Can hear her click the recorder off and on with lots of background noise. If I didn’t want to hear the conclusion I’d have returned unread.

This was a very good historical romance reminding us of the differences women had to deal with prior to the Women’s Rights and Suffrage movements. This widow was unable to own her ranch after her husband’s death without finding a new husband to put his name on the deed.

After placing an ad for a husband, a ranger was sent to marry her in order to break up a land grabbing scheme. Lots of twists in the story along the way kept my interest start to finish.

The story was well developed and had quite a few characters involved.

As if he doesn't have enough to handle between running outlaws out of Cheyenne, keeping his brothers out of trouble, and avenging his father's death, Sheriff Sawyer McCade's meddling mother just dumped a mysterious mail-order bride on his doorstep. One woman can be more trouble than a band of renegades, and while this one has him all stirred up, he'd rather get to the bottom of the story she isn't telling. Rose Parker had it all - until a web of danger and deceit sends her running to Cheyenne posing as a mail-order bride. Escaping the evils of New York seems sensible until she meets the unsuspecting sheriff who didn't ask for her, has no intention of marrying her, and won't rest until he uncovers her secret and sends her back home.

Although this was quite a long read, it thoroughly sucked me in. I found the family dynamic to be quite realistic - brothers who fought yet had each others’ backs and a mother who wasn’t a saint, yet very loving and strong.

Rose’s character was also well developed and a strong woman trying to be independent in an age where women were without rights.

Well written and developed historical details. Can’t wait to read about the other brothers.

I liked the storyline, however felt the relationship between Julianne and Tucker needed more development. We got very little of Tucker in the story. I realize it’s a “short story” but would like to have gotten to know Tucker a bit better.

Narration wasn’t great in my opinion; pronunciation of key words such as arboretum was pronounced “arboretorium” a couple of times, which is not a word. Several other words had weird pronunciations but that may be regional. I know that I am very particular about grammar and pronunciation, but I find it distracting when words are mispronounced.

Overall a cute meet with a sweet ending. I listened to it twice and enjoyed it both times..

After listening to all the books in the West series and the Silver Lining series l continue to ask one question- why was the same narrator used for all these books when he continually interchanges the character names, as well as gender specific pronouns?? Very distracting and confusing. In additional most of the female voices were terrible. I’ve enjoyed the books, but will avoid books narrated by Roy Samuelson on the future.

This love story is poignant and has an historical significance. It has familial elements as well as a long term relationship which was in need of some clarification. I listened to this story in one afternoon and didn’t want to stop until I knew the ending.

Since I hate when people write a synopsis of the entire book giving away the story including the conclusion, just know that this is a very well written, heartwarming Christmas story. Highly recommend this book.

Soooo many mispronounced words -- especially names of places - not only in this book, but in Men in Kilts, The Great Scot and Some Like It Scot. Words like Maryland spoken by a native Marylander. The word lascivious was slaughtered do badly it took quite some time to discern what the word was - other simpler words badly pronounced as well.

Loved the stories - hated the narration.
