The day is like any other day until it becomes The Day. At 4:05 pm the United States is attacked with an electromagnetic pulse (EMP) weapon. A 20-megaton nuclear warhead is detonated high in the atmosphere above Kansas, blanketing most of the contiguous United States and parts of Canada and Mexico with an electromagnetic pulse that damages nearly all microprocessors and electronic controls beyond repair. Nearly every system that depends on computers and electronics has ceased to work.

To be honest, I made it to chapter 37 and had to quit listening. Excitement was very minimal. I felt the female voice actors had to high pitched of a voice when portraying other characters. The Male voice actor made other characters sound like Forest Gump. I just had a hard time staying engaged in the story

With the country slowly descending into chaos, a visionary leader takes action. Dave Cavanaugh, a silver-haired outdoorsman, mountain hiker, and billionaire, dubbed the “Richard Branson of the Rockies”, sets in motion a plan to construct walled, gated communities across the country to preserve art, science, medicine, and religion - designed to be islands of calm in a sea of chaos. Much like Noah built an ark before the great flood, Dave intends to build a series of land-based arks before the country completely drowns in chaos.

great story.... I liked that it parallels the things that are happening today in real life. I also liked that I can follow the characters journey on the map from my phone or computer. I am a bit of a prepper so I felt like I could relate to the concept of being prepared for anything and living in a place that is self sustaining. The only problem I had was that it seems the only people that could afford to invest would have a safe place during civil unrest or end times, the only people allowed in the charter towns would be the rich or family and friends of David, he mentions that he wants people from all walks of life to live there but doesn't explain how a hard working low income family could get the chance to live in the safety of this community. I know poor people aren't as interesting and the rich but maybe it will be explained in the next book? this is a good story and worth the credit. I would also recommend to a friend, because it does have good ideas on survival.

He taught me to kill. Murder is in my blood now. It runs through my veins and though I hide the monster I see in the mirror with ink, it doesn't keep him from coming out. My street name is Mercy, but I never show any. Except for her. I watch Becca, though she doesn't know. She saved me a long time ago; the day my father killed my mother. Her bravery turned her into a target. My father holds a grudge and knife with the same proficiency, and Becca is the focus of his hatred. And I'm the only monster who can save her.

I knew better than to bet myself. But desperation leads to bad decisions, and I thought there was no way I could lose. I was wrong. Now I have no choice but to make a deal with the devil....

The narration was good although I don't think Joe does a good female character voice he makes them sound board, I was able to look past that because the story was so good. worth the credit you won't regret it!

I’m just a simple girl who likes dessert. And sexy men. And social media. So starting an anonymous video channel called The Sexpert as a side hustle to make up for my low-paying marketing job at Le Man Magazine seemed like a perfectly sensible career decision. Until we went viral, my boss accused my anonymous personality of stealing his idea, and now my super sexy new boyfriend, Andrew, is out to get me. Her. Me. Whatever.

Winey desperation doesn't look good on anyone and doesn't make a story interesting at all. Janey acted like she was in high school not college. I don't like weak willed women as lead characters. I wasn't to fond of the narration either. I had to fast forward. It might be ok for YA.

I knew the fork in the road was inevitable; it was the decision I never wanted to make between choices I didn't know I had. And I love them both. My heart is destined to exist in two equal halves - one with each man. But one half beats stronger, the vein running deepest, and holds my choice in silence long before I know it for myself. The realization of what I have to do, of the heart I have to break, just might break mine, too.

I really liked the 1st book. This one had good some ideas for a story but it started to repeat things that happened in the 1st book. Someone in the PD is a leak again, Avery gets kidnapped for the 2nd time straight out of the police department again. after the description of Detective Quinn in the 1st book, I imagine him looking like an old school, creepy looking old guy cop. So in this book when Avery and Quinn get together it didn't feel like an attractive fit. I felt like neither character had much depth. They had next to no background. But I finished listening to it kept my interest. it was still worth the credit.
