I have 2 grandsons who are cousins, but have one major thing in common: they are both on the Autism Spectrum. They are just 4 months apart in age. The younger of the 2 has the lesser of the symptoms, he’s classified as very high functioning. His main problem now is social skills. He was diagnosed at 2.5 yrs old. At the time, he had a very limited vocabulary and preferred to be by himself. He will be entering high school this fall and has been mainstreamed since grade school. The older one is slightly further down on the spectrum. He also has ADHD and OCD, which I’ve learned from this book is quite common in kids with ASD. I love Curt and Ana’s story!! And I have something in common with Curt: we both come from Southern West Virginia in the coal fields, although different counties and different upbringings. I recommend this book for anyone who wants to know more about ASD and/or has a loved one on the spectrum.

I LOVED this book!!! I so applaud her bravery in telling her story and the story of so many of us who through no fault of our own search for better lives for ourselves and our children. While I wasn’t a maid or ever homeless , I was a single Mom of 2 girls. I worked in the retail business as a sales associate. Some of the glances from strangers while using WIC or food stamps were heartbreakingly familiar. As were the attitudes from some of the DHR employees. There were many friendly and helpful ones, but there were those who acted as if the benefits my daughters and I received were coming out of their own pockets. They (the judgement ones) didn’t know or care that I worked also and paid taxes towards my assistance. As with Stephanie’s story, college was my saving grace, I now hold 2 college degrees and am a RN. Thank you, Stephanie for telling the story of the overlooked and forgotten.

Wow is the best way to describe my thoughts at this beautiful and moving book. I had heard about this event in the war, but had never heard about the details. This made the men seem so real, with names, faces, and personalities. I won’t give away the details, but I cried in more than one place. I also prayed for the souls of the men who lived through and the ones who died in this war. Sadly I could not find a print version of this to order for home. If you are a lover of history, you will really want to listen to this one.

This really is a great book and I thoroughly enjoyed the content, the stories, and the teachings. The part that I didn’t enjoy is that Pastor Steven Furtick didn’t read it himself. It’s not that the narrator didn’t do a good job, it’s just that I’ve gotten used to Pastor Steven’s voice and I view it as a voice of authority. Had he been the narrator, the book would’ve gotten 5 stars in all categories from me.
