Sheriff Lance Beaufort is not going to let trouble into his town, no sir. Tucked away in the California mountains, Mad Creek has secrets to keep, like the fact that half the town consists of "quickened" - dogs who have gained the ability to become human. Descended on both sides from Border Collies, Lance is as alert a guardian as they come

Enter a small town where shifters live. But not just your classic shifter, no, these are people who are orignally dogs, but once they get the spark they are able to shift to human form. I loved this story. Picked it up for the Summer Romance Book Bingo and enjoyed it so much. Loved the story, loved the characters and the people in town, and loved the narration. I will pick up the other books in this series for sure!

The story is about the sherrif of Mad Creek, Lance Beaufort. He sees trouble in his town when a strange man arrives, reeking of weed. This man Tim Weston is a shy man with strangers and without him knowing his stumbling awkwardness puts the Sherrif against him. When Lance goes to Tim’s property to check things out in dog form, he gets hit by Tim’s car. The sherrif pretends to be hurt to get close. Tim falls for the beautiful dog and seeing who Tim is without his shyness the sherrif begins to develope feelings for Tim. But how can this become more when Tim does not know the truth about him or the town?

It took a bit to get used to the female narrator, but in the end I loved her performance. The story was really wonderful. Loved the humor and the relationship between Georgie and Kline. Well worth a credit.
