3.5 stars.

I'm not sure if this was a contemporary romance or a rom-com, but something just didn't feel quite right as I was listening.

I was invested in the story enough to want to see how the story progresses, but not enough that I want to clamor on to listen to the remainder of the series. There just wasn't anything that "wow"ed me... the climax seemed anticlimactic. However, I will say that ending did make me swoon a bit.

I enjoyed this story and will continue this series, but I was a bit underwhlemed by the amount of teenage drama and immaturity between the two main characters. For what Mikayla had been through, I expected her to be a bit more grown up or to at least grow into that person as the story progressed.

I guess I was a bit turned off by the constant jealousy when all they had to do was talk about what they wanted or needed from each other. Communication comes with age and they are still freshly graduated from high school, but it was so frustrating when they didn't learn from a previous miscommunication.

Now that I got that of of my chest... Jake as a hero was quite appealing. From go, he was protective of Kayla and showed his strength of character as she endured all she did. Kayla had to grow on me a bit more. I understand her hesitance to pursue more, but I think her fear held her back from what was so blatently clear right in her face.

I enjoyed the writing style and will continue to read this series because... hello cliffhanger!

With her signature style, Ms. Grey does a fine job letting a relationship simmer until the point of madness. When things finally combust, the reader is rewarded with all the feels.

The tension was palpable... their relationship was inevitable... the sparks were ridiculous! I thoroughly enjoyed this story and the narration was spot on!

This book was not what I expected, in the best way... it was so laugh-out-loud funny in moments.

It was a nice change of pace to have a Hero be so sure of his feelings and patiently guided the heroine to embrace hers. Ian is what book boyfriends are made of... honestly, I wish I had my very own Ian.

The narrators did a phenomenal job of capturing the spirit of the characters and the story.

I would definitely recommend this one!

Oh. My. Goodness. This book had so much sarcastic humor, I couldn't control my laughter at times. I listened to the audio of this book and the narrators were perfection. They really made the author's humor stand out.

I had only read Fisher's Light by Tara Sivec... it was emotional and angsty. I knew she wrote predominantly Rom-Com, but I was not prepared for just how hilarious she would be. If all her books are this funny with a perfect balance of emotion and swoon, sign me up for the binge read!

I am in love with Baker and Ember!

The Play was a deep, meaningful romance that left me with so many feelings... it's hard to put them into words. It was refreshing to read about a Hero like Lachlan with dark and deep flaws that weren't just smoothed over in a few pages. Kayla was a heroine who embodied more strength and self-worth than I could have ever expected. That combination made this a tremendous read.

WTF is the only thing that keeps repeating on loop having just finished this mindbending thriller. Like, I thought I knew CoHo, but... what did I actually just read?

Oh yeah, the narration was perfect. But the words... yeah, still reeling. I'm terrified of your brain lady.

If any other readers are afraid to read this book like I was.. you should be, but not for the reasons you think. This story is going to grip your brain so tight and twist any preconceived notions you ever had about Colleen Hoover being normal. I mean, she just completely obliterated my brain... but in the best way possible. Thanks for making me feel as batcrap crazy as you apparently are. I mean brilliant. CoHo, you so brilliant, not crazy. Yeah, that's what I meant.
