When an experiment to study quantum uncertainty goes spectacularly wrong, physics student Bill Rustad and his friends find that they have accidentally created an inter-dimensional portal. They connect to Outland - an alternate Earth with identical geology, but where humans never evolved. The group races to establish control of the portal before the government, the military, or evildoers can take it away. Then everything changes when the Yellowstone supervolcano erupts in an explosion large enough to destroy civilization and kill half the planet.

Great story with some really strong MC's. Ray Porter is one of the best narrators and the story is really good. The author does a good job of creating tension without making the MC's seem like idiots.

Let me start by saying I can't recommend this story/series strongly enough.

Great, fast paced story and a very good performance. I've read the story multiple times and purchased the audio book as soon as it was available. As of the time I am writing this I'm only a couple of hours into the audio book but I am pleasantly surprised with the performance.

This is the first time I have heard this narrator and he does an excellent job with character voices and uses the appropriate amount of emphasis at the appropriate time. So far there have been no awkward pauses, heavy breathing into the microphone etc. The reason I gave the performance 4 stars instead of 5 is because there were times when I thought I was listening to Casey Kasem. Not a big deal, just me being critical of a new (to me) narrator.

After listening to the entire audio book I changed my performance rating to 5 stars. Travis really does an outstanding job of building character profiles. On top of that his performance blends into the story vs becoming a focus of the story. Looking forward to the next book in the series.

The only possible thing that could make Morgan's world even more difficult happened. The Japanese fleet off the coast of California was wiped out. An even that Morgan and friends and family only knew about because of the radio broadcasts from the Radio Free Redoubt. So far removed from them it barely warranted notice. That is until the Chinese retaliated by launching a nuclear counter-strike against Mac Dill Air Force base. This, did warrant their attention and had the potential to profoundly impact their lives.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Absolutely. The story is very good, well developed characters and useful information.

Any additional comments?

This entire series has been excellent and I really hope he continues developing this world. The only nitpicking piece of criticism I would have is the cadence of the narrator. Sometimes it’s a little off. That’s it and the only reason I mention it is so no one confuses this with a friends and family review. Overall the narrator is one of the best I have listened to and I would try a new story because he’s the narrator.

What made the experience of listening to Getting Out: A Post-Apocalyptic EMP Survival Thriller the most enjoyable?

Kevin Pierce

Would you be willing to try another book from Ryan Westfield? Why or why not?

possibly but I wouldn't pay or use a credit for another 6 hour audio book. If the story warrants it that's fine, this one does not fit that description.

What does Kevin Pierce bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I love listening to anything Kevin narrates. He does a great job of subtly but distinctively changing his voice for each character.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

hopefully better than the book.

Any additional comments?

This has the potential to be very good. However, the main characters continually make idiotic mistakes ands the author had a few subtle negative references regarding gun owners. ie: they didn't look like people who would own a gun. If this story is ever offered as an omnibus it would be worth using the credit. As it stands each book is too short to warrant the cost.

Where does Storm Front rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

The story is excellent. I've already read the series and wanted to go back and listen from the start.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

I don't like to use absolutes but this narrator is the worst. I made it 3 hours into a series I love and had to stop listening. Besides the overall bored tone to his narration the listener is treated to listening to the narrator smack his lips, breathing and other background noises that are non-stop. Basically every pet peeve I have is expressed by this narrator. I'm sure some will disagree with me about the quality of the narration but I cannot listen to anymore and unfortunately this is the narrator for the entire series. Yes, I could be overreacting to how horrible the narration is, but like I mentioned above, the narrator hits all my pet peeves.
