Sir Richard Kenworthy has less than a month to find a bride. He knows he can't be too picky, but when he sees Iris Smythe-Smith hiding behind her cello at her family's infamous musicale, he thinks he might have struck gold. She's the type of girl you don't notice until the second - or third - look, but there's something about her, something simmering under the surface, and he knows she's the one.

"Marley was dead to begin with...." These chillingly familiar words begin the classic Christmas tale of remorse and redemption in A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. Now R. William Bennett rewinds the story and focuses the spotlight on Scrooge’s miserly business partner, Jacob T. Marley, who was allowed to return as a ghost to warn Scrooge away from his ill-fated path. Why was Marley allowed to return? And why hadn’t he been given the same chance as Ebenezer Scrooge? Or had he?

This is one of the best books I've read in a long time. I've always been a fan of the Christmas Carol by Dickons, but this weaves the story of his partner masterfully. Shows a whole other side of what was going on at that time. Loved it.

Chastity listens to Dr. Douglas Farrell's distressingly unromantic requirements for a wife: wealth and social status. Her instinct is to refuse service to the tall, muscular, dark-eyed physician, but she can't turn away a paying client. Yet the doctor conceals a secret. He's prepared to sacrifice his bachelorhood for his true passion: caring for the poorest of London's poor. Little does Chastity know that if she ever learned the selfless truth, the handsome doctor just might steal her heart.

I read historical romance because I like the romance aspect so missing from contemporary stories. This is a trilogy about three very slutty sisters in Victorian England. Returned about the first book, unread. Usually like her books, but this was a disappointment

I always like her books and this one was well written and great narration, but so many characters and not much wrap up at the end to tie the mystery together. I got a little lost on who was who. Might have been better had I been reading instead of audio but I went back and relistened and still didn't get it all straight. A wrap up would have been nice to tie it all together, but worth listening to. maybe I'm just slow.

Story was good, just a short romance, but the narration was terrible. Had the book been longer, I would not have finished it. The voice sounded like a little kid, which I thought was what they were going for when they did the children's voices, but then she continued in that little girl squeaky voice during a sex scene, which was just disturbing. Terrible
